I had a friend when I was around that age who people thought didn't have a life. This dude used build some of the craziest stuff using Construx and K'nex. All around his room there were these little constructs that did a lot of different things. He had a hamster habitat (lol) made out of a bunch of little cages and K'Nex pieces damn near around the perimeter of his room. He would take thrown away remote control cars and stuff like that, put it together with something else and make it work.
This kid was obsessed with animals, had a pen outside where he kept different spieces of turtles, snakes and fish we caught from the creek. No lie, he caught what had to be like a 2 and half foot long Alligator Snapping turtle and that thing was a beast.
Point is, he was obsessed with his hobby just like this kid is. He still went outside, went rock climbing and bike riding with us. It's just that when he wasn't doing that, he spent his time doing something else he enjoyed. I don't think of him as having no life, I thought and still think he is one of the coolest dudes I ever met.
