    Rotten Tomatoes

How good of a site is rotten tomatoes? I generally pick up a new movie on Saturday or Sunday when I go grocery shopping at Wal-Mart so I'm looking for a reputable place to get movie reviews beforehand.

    Thanks

What would you go by when checking out Rotten Tomatoes, the critic's rating or the community's rating?

I generally just look at the overall rating and the blurbs that they quote from each article. They gather up a large number of reviews for each movie, so you can usually get a good read on what a movie's like from the critical rating consensus as well as the little snippets they include from each review.

RT influences me more than it should. With that said, it has RARELY led me astray.

The only highly rated RT films I've disagreed with have been "Knocked Up" [91%] and "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" [85%]. I thought both films were trash.

If a movie gets a high rating (70%+ with lots of reviews), I wouldn't bother reading anything unless you have no idea what the movie is about. If the movie gets a low rating, read the blurbs because they can often be humorous and you might as well get some entertainment from that movie's existence.

                  I generally find RT useful.
