Roeper & Ebert = No More

Roeper, Ebert leaving popular TV show
Chicago Sun-Times film critic Roger Ebert says he's cutting ties with the television show that he and the late Gene Siskel made famous.

In an e-mail to The Associated Press on Monday, Ebert said Disney-ABC Domestic Television had decided to take the show "in a new direction" and he won't be associated with it.

I didn't have a problem with changing the thumbs up/thumbs down thing since Ebert hasn't been able to consistently be on the show and I figured it was a matter of time before he had to leave anyway. Hopefully he recovers fully because he really is one of the best film critics out there.

I haven't seen the show since Transformers but what did they replace the thumbs up/thumbs down with?

I believe if Gene was still alive Disney-ABC domestic would've pushed both of them out the door earlier. At least Ebert pushed the far as he could after Gene died.

I'm curious about this too. What was the change?

I also watched this show while growing up... I remember it being a once a week show. But there's no way can it survive today, even if Siskel is still around. Massive amounts of reviews can be found in an instant through the metacritics and the rotten tomatoes... No way in heck am I going to wait a week to see what two guys say when I can see what hundreds say in an a few clicks of the mouse, ya know?

Lol, I'll refrain from any *back in my day* stories. But I think most of ya'll are older than me and a bit more wiser

          *sigh*

not shocking.. has anyone seen or heard what Ebert looks and talks like now? Due to his ongoing battle, he now has to communicate almost like Stephen Hawking (voice through a computer program)...

It was just a matter of time...

Ugh! A DVD review show in the Toronto market does this as well. I think that's a bit cheesy. I mean why would someone recommend you to skip a movie then review another movie and say "oh well it's a good enough movie so just rent it."

A movie is either good or bad. There's no gray area.

That's a damn shame. At least they both write reviews that are posted online, right?

                      Ebert has a site here.

I"m sure Roeper has his stuff published online as well.

Pretty classy statement by Roeper, announcing his own yet unscheduled, unnamed movie review show.
Roeper said he intends to "proceed elsewhere ... as the co-host of a movie review show that honors the standards established by Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert more than 30 years ago."
