    Mad Men

Has anyone watched this show? Season 2 preview was last night. I think the acting is pretty top notch and it gives you a great perspective to how much our society has changed over the past 50 or so years.

If you're not familiar with it here's a brief synopsis:

    About the Show

Set in 1960s New York, the sexy, stylized and provocative AMC drama Mad Men follows the lives of the ruthlessly competitive men and women of Madison Avenue advertising, an ego-driven world where key players make an art of the sell.
Returning for its second season, the Golden Globe®-winning series for Best TV drama and actor will continue to blur the lines between truth and lies, perception and reality. The world of Mad Men is moving in a new direction -- can Sterling Cooper keep up? Meanwhile the private life of Don Draper becomes complicated in a new way. What is the cost of his secret identity?
Created, executive produced and written by Weiner, this drama series stars Jon Hamm (We Were Soldiers), Elisabeth Moss (The West Wing), Vincent Kartheiser (Angel), John Slattery (Desperate Housewives), Christina Hendricks (Kevin Hill), and January Jones (We Are Marshall) along with guest star (and stage/screen legend) Robert Morse (How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying). Michael Gladis (Third Watch), Aaron Staton (The Nanny Diaries), Rich Sommer (The Devil Wears Prada), and Bryan Batt (La Cage Aux Folles") round out the cast.
The Premise: The series revolves around the conflicted world of Don Draper (Hamm), the biggest ad man (and ladies man) in the business, and his colleagues at the Sterling Cooper Advertising Agency. As Don makes the plays in the boardroom and the bedroom, he struggles to stay a step ahead of the rapidly changing times and the young executives nipping at his heels. The series also depicts authentically the roles of men and women in this era while exploring the true human nature beneath the guise of 1960s traditional family values.

Just downloaded this and finished the 2nd episode. It starts a bit slow, but with all the raving this show has gotten, I'm sure it'll pick up. I like it so far.

That's the thing, the first three episodes puts most people to sleep. But it gets REALLY good after episode 5, amazing show. Can't wait for season 2.

Cool. After watching Episode 1 of The Wire, being uninterested, and proceeding to sleep on that show for another 6 months, I won't make the same mistake with this one. I'm sticking it out for sure -- I have the whole season, so I'll be watching it. I like the characters and the atmosphere already -- I guess I'm a sucker for bygone eras, even if they're full of sexism and racism haha..

                  Re: Mad Men

Just watched the first three episodes of this show on DVD last night.

The first episode was top notch. The second and third were a bit slow, but I can tell that it's doing a lot of preparation for a buildup in the season.

It's a tough deal, though, for cable television. They have 12 episodes to tell a full story and 1/4 of the way through, it's been mostly background. But, the background is important. Though, Don Draper remains a mystery, you have to know about his collegues and friends to understand why he keeps his life such a secret.

There are a lot of conniving little brats in his dog-eat-dog world. Most of this hasn't been established, but you can see from three episodes alone that everyone is out for their own benefit.

Great look, cinematography, and direction. The essence of 1960 seems to be right on and several advertising execs of the 60's have confirmed that most of the behavior and attitudes are perfect.

This show is so incredible. Can't wait for it to pick back up on Season 3... can't imagine where it's all going.. so many surprises and so much character development already. And the actress who plays Joan is the hottest woman on the planet to me right now.

She's alright, I guess. I think they make her look amazing on the show. It certainly helps that she has breasts that are bigger than my head.

It's the curviness -- that type of woman has been gone form the public eye for too long... reminds me of 40's pinup girls. Yowsa... her hair/eyes help as well, but that hourglass figure is something else. Truthfully, almost all of the women on this show (especially January Jones as Betty Draper) look amazing dressed in 60's hair/clothing -- everyone looks so damn sharp and it makes me want to wear a suit with a skinny tie and a fedora on the regular ha.

Oh, man, I agree. Her body is great. I guess, I'm still trying to decide if I find her face hot.

I think she looks great on the show, but I've seen her outside of the 60's get up and I'm not sure she does it for me.

                              Still deciding.
