    Joel McHale and The Soup

Haven't seen this mentioned on here. Anyone else love this show? McHale is the first valid replacement on this show since the original host. Can anyone name him?

Re: Joel McHale and The Soup

Original host = Greg Kinnear (even though it was techically "Talk Soup" then, rather than "The Soup"). But yeah, I brought up Joel's name in the OT thread because I was shocked to find out that he was on the '91 National Championship Washington Huskies football team

Joel McHale is freakin money. I dont know if he writes his own stuff, but he is definately one of the wittier hosts out there. Only a matter of time before he has his own talk show.

If NBC was smart they'd throw a boatload of money at him to take over Conan O'Brien's timeslot when he replaces Jay Leno.

The Soup is the only show on that network that is worth the time of day and it's all because of that guy. I agree he should get Conan's spot when he moves to the Tonight Show.

Reviving this thread as just got done with the 2nd installment of the best clips from 2009. It's funny because you see other stations trying to emulate this show (Web Soup, Sports Soup), but no one can touch it. And needless to say the idiotic shows that are increasing exponentially only continue to feed The Soup.

I'm sure Joel will need to move on at some time, but hopefully it's to something of quality and not continue on some crap major network show where he'll get lost.

p.s. I didn't know Greg Kinnear was the original host.... I thought it was the guy with the grey patch in his hair (Jim Henson, I think?)

Tosh.0 has a similar format and it's hilarious.

And, Joel McHale stars on the NBC comedy "Community," which is also hilarious.

Yeah, those shows are directly affiliated with NBC and the main "The Soup" -- they just spawned targeted knock-offs on their other networks (sports, nerds) when they realized how popular Joel and the show were getting.

And yeah, I watch basically none of the shows he talks about but still laugh my *** off at the show every week. Joel's just hilarious and it's a good way to get a dose of the ridiculousness of modern TV without actually having to spend hours and hours watching that crap to get to the gems.

I think Web Soup is funny -- I haven't watched Sports Soup. Chris Hardwick is pretty funny and has a different delivery than Joel which works well for the target audience I think. Plus, the internet generates more craziness by about a mile than the TV does, so the source material is probably funnier.

EDIT: Also, LOL @ these clip shows to end the season getting all the subjects of the videos to show up. Web Soup had the guy who took a million nutshots, the old guy transvestite (Loco Mama?) and a few others... The Soup brought the "CHICKEN TETRAZZINI" lady to the studio.. hilarious.
