JFK...."Victory has a thousand fathers, Defeat is an orphan."

Another Holtz one...he was addressing a Golden Gopher Booster Club before his 1st season as head coach. "Ladies and Gentleman, make no mistake..the heart and soul of our team will be the young men of the state of Minnesota (pauses to thunderous applause from the boosters)..but as for the legs, arms, and muscles...we will recruit other states."

Marko Ramius (Hunt for Red October)..."Once the world trembled at the sounds of our rockets, today, it will tremble at the sound of our silence."

Eisenhower's Military Industrial Complex/farewell speech has to be one of the greatest speeches of all time...its riddled with great quotes, and still holds very true to this day.

That speech is more true today then it was back then. Honestly it was 50 years ahead of its time.

Here are some I like from Bill Hicks:

Here is my final point. About drugs, about alcohol, about pornography and smoking and everything else. What business is it of yours what I do, read, buy, see, say, think, who I ****, what I take into my body - as long as I do not harm another human being on this planet?

The world is like a ride in an amusement park. And when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it's very brightly coloured and it's very loud and it's fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time and they begin to question: "Is this real, or is this just a ride?" And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, "Hey, don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride." And we kill those people.

I'm gonna share with you a vision that I had, cause I love you. And you feel it. You know all that money we spend on nuclear weapons and defense each year, trillions of dollars, correct? Instead -- just play with this -- if we spent that money feeding and clothing the poor of the world -- and it would pay for it many times over, not one human being excluded -- we can explore space together, both inner and outer, forever in peace. Thank you very much. You've been great, I hope you enjoyed it.

There are so many by Abraham Lincoln that it would be ridiculous to list them...just do a search on his quotes..

Here is one from a plain old fireman at his father's funeral(a fire officer) after September 11th.
It just always stuck with me.

"As I stand here looking at the list of names, of the brothers we lost along with my father, I realize how much the F.D.N.Y. lost that day. But I also realize that God got himself one heck of a fire department."

I think it was the first time I chuckled after that day.

Okay....I guess one of my favorites from Lincoln is...."If you give me 6 hours to chop down a tree. I will spend the first 4 hours sharpening my axe."
I like that one so much I actually put it up over the work bench at work. Some of the new, young guys look at me like I'm nuts or just give me the far away stare when I direct them to read it.....but after the first time they make a rookie mistake...I re-direct them to the sign when we get back to the house. .....then it hits them...the time to figure out what you need to do is LONG before the $#i^ hits the fan.
They still give me that look though...
