Can anyone recommend a good stereo receiver with lots of inputs?

Now that i'm making good money I'm looking to replace my 5 year old Kenwood 5.1 surround sound receiver with something better. Not volume wise so much, I live in an apartment and can't crank it, but one with a lot more inputs, specifically optical (toslink) inputs. Right now I use a manual switch box to switch between PS3, DVR and Xbox and it's really lame.

As for money i'm looking to spend about $350-$550 range. At Best Buy today a clerk highly recommended the Yamaha receiver for $529 and it did look pretty good, it had HDMI upconverting ports but unfortunately only 2 optical ins (although it did have 1 coax in too).

Another thing that would be nice, but not necessary, is an iPod controller. I've seen some receivers with a direct USB connection which would be optimal. Much better than having to buy some add-on thing to make the iPod work.

Do you mean this one? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1201913281190

I have the previous version (RX-V661) and it is a great receiver.
    Remember,when using HDMI,that's one less optical/coax input you'll need.
You should run the PS3 into HDMI for the advanced sound codecs on Blu-Ray. It is a toss-up as to whether the DVR or 360 should go in the other HDMI in. That leaves 5 more digital ins (3 optical and 2 coax on this model) for all of your other stuff.

agreed. I've owned it for about 2-3 months and it is awesome. It replaced one of the Panasonic digital receivers which was very well reviewed, and the Onkyo sounds MUCH better and fuller.
