iPod's look cooler, but the Creative Labs are better machines, IMO.

Not anymore, Creative has lost its way as far as PMPs go. After the Vision: M they've been going downhill.

I've been on the lookout for a small cheap flash player for the gym but I can't be bothered to pay over $100 (some over $200) for a 4/6/8 gig player (esp with the new Zune clocking in at around $2 a gig). That said i want a screen and i'm not a fan of Sandisk. I'm hoping apple drops the prices for a 4g nano to around $80 (or MS Zune or Sony) but thats not looking likely.

Went with the Creative Zen PLUS 2GB (Radio Shack) and found a Monster RadioPlay 200 FM transmitter (indirectly from Amazon). Total for all with shipping was under $70.

For the cost and that my wife is not a hardcore techno junkie, this was a good purchase. Easy to set-up and use. With the right set of headphones the sound is more than adequate. The true test will come in playing it on my car speakers vs. hers.

I had a Creative for 4 years, absolutely loved it. I had the Zen Xtra, wasn't a very sleek looking machine but it got the job done for a good 4 years.

I moved onto a Zune only because a friend of mine was preparing to sell his barely used 30gig for $100, so I took him up on the deal.

If you're looking for a not-so-fancy but very efficent machine I'd definitely say go with a Creative. Program is easy to use, good machines overall.

I would also look into alternate options outside of FM transmitters. Really you can tell me all you want the quality is good, I don't believe it, I don't hear it. If you really are passionate about listening to music in your car get a $100 stereo setup with an AUX input, it's like night and day.

Great purchase for the wife. If my wife wasn't a techno-junkie I'd probably do the same thing.

Plus, at this point iPods can do so much more it doesn't make sense to buy one unless you're going to get the use out of it. Those creative players work well for those who just want a brick that plays music.
