Need help with my Wireless Connection

Okay my wireless router is about 8 feet away from the laptop, but I am only getting a Good or Very Good signal. It however stays consistent at 54.0 mbps. This started about a week ago, this morning the connection was so bad that I couldn't even send an email without it timing out. I've tried turning off the Router and restarting it along with the DSL Modem but to no avail, it will keep full strength for a few minutes and then it drops down and stays there.

I live across the street from a hospital, could their wireless network be interfering with mine like this? What can I do to fix this?

Log into your router and change the channel on it. The default channel is usually 6, try channel 1 or 11.

Okay, how do I do that? Do I just go to my IP address?

Okay, I went to the address on the back of the Router and it is taking my to a Westell page (that is who makes the modem), I have a Netgear router. Did I do something wrong here?

The IP address is usually something like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. I'm not sure what the default for Netgear is.
