HBO's "The Wire" should rank as one of the top 10 shows EVER on tv - period

I am going back to the 70's on this one. Mark Hicks (Drac) from Slave. Listen to his solos in "Slide". Starts at 2:49 mark. Mark Adams(Mr Mark) kicks it on the Bass as well. If you love old school funk, you'll like this.

"Son of Slave" Not a lot of lyrics. Just funk.

Great show; have to watch it several more times. The differing insights were mostly interesting/fascinating. I'm not a big fan of Al Sharpton, but his take on how hip hop culture has evolved was interesting. I really liked all the varying perspectives; Colin Powell was probably my favorite

Powell was my favorite. I saw his first, because I caught the show at the end, and that's what made me post.

I'm with you on Al. Juxtaposing his view on hip hop against Simmons' view on hip hop is very interesting.

I think most people here were aware of that. Its just that people generally refer to mixed race people by the non-white. Lucy Liu is half white and asian and people refer to her as an asian woman. Obama is mixed but people refer to him as black.

Or more specifically, whether or not you can pass for white. At least in America, that's how it has gone. The general rule of thumb has been that mixed children are considered the minority.

Now that's all divisive nonsense, but it is history, and it's why I was surprised to see Slash as the first person on The Black List.

But he's no more or less mixed than Lenny Kravitz or Barack Obama.
