Re: Oh ****... Scream 4
I have no plans to watch the film as I never cared for the Scream franchise like some do.
It's interesting to me because I hear people say the franchise is scary. I really thought it was something else. It's possible the Scary Movie franchise has confused me, but I don't remember ever feeling like I was supposed to be scared of Scream.
It always felt like a serious parody of horror films. Scream 4 is apparently not much different from the reviews I've read."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Oh ****... Scream 4
If Ghostface jumping randomly into frame whist wielding giant knife as the music does the standard scary move "DUN!" high note doesn't scare you, then you won't find Scream scary.
That's all it is, basically.
I don't find the Scream movies to be all that scary, more suspenseful. And in a way, they're more of a mystery movie, between trying to figure out who's going to get picked off next and who's doing the killing.
This scene is as good as Scream gets. You can decide in 12 minutes if these movies are for you based solely on if you enjoy this scene, I think.

Re: Oh ****... Scream 4
Yes Dayman but as you said, it's as good as Scream gets. While the movie has very interesting characters that we love to watch and ultimately do care about in fact, the opening to the first Scream movie is one of the best scenes in horror cinema and will be difficult to ever top.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Oh ****... Scream 4
Ok, I like that. Mystery/Suspense.
I can agree that I definitely felt that way while watching Scream. I guess I think of Horror in a different way.
The reminder of that element of suspense that was present in key scenes, actually just helped me remember what I did enjoy about the Scream franchise (at least the first two films as my memory of the third was mostly feeling unpleased).
I shall take back what I said before and give Scream its credit back."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. Re: Scream 4
"Don't **** with the original"
I'm not sure why I didn't like Scream 4 more. The opening was really good and if there isn't a Scream 5, I'm happy with how the series ended. The movie did include a discussion of the Saw franchise and most of the "horror" films of the past 10 years were mentioned.

Re: Oh ****... Scream 4
And you're somewhat correct in that my horror movie viewing experience hasn't been expanded to all of the movies in the 80s and 70s, so if you would like to enlighten me with some of your favorite scenes if they're online, I'd be happy to watch them. But what was good then isn't necessarily good now, so good luck impressing me.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: Scream 4
I listened to the latest /film podcast and this critic just destroyed the film.
There's a real disconnect between the film critics and the people that actually saw the movie. Dan Silver was on the BS Report and he said Scream 4 was the worst sequel of all-time, lol.
Regarding the ending:
SpoilerI actually thought Jill's motive made a lot of sense because she was Sydney's cousin. At first I didn't like Charlie also being Ghostface but after thinking about it, I buy his reason too. He was an obsessed movie/stab fan. If I want to be picky, in the scenes, Ghostface was too tall for it to be Emma Roberts.
There's people out there that thought the movie should have ended before Jill tried to kill everybody at the hospital. At this point, I don't feel like we really need the Sydney/Gail/Dewey characters to be alive. A cool way to start Scream 5 is to kill off all 3 of characters in the opening scene. I also wish Kirby wasn't killed off. They could have used her to carry the next gen of Scream movies.Comment
