His style it is his own. He is great, but I still go with Cliff.

Okay after listening to more of him his popping and slapping isn't as percussive as flea's. He tries to get actual notes out of it instead of beats. He's a good bassist just not anything to write home about IMO.

Claypool also does a lot more chords and tapping than Flea. I'm not even a fan of Claypool, but on a technical level, they are most likely equal.

If you're basing it off of a few random samplings of Claypool's work then you likely won't see the big deal about Claypool. If you listen to all of the Primus stuff that's one thing but you have to check out stuff like Oysterhead and Fearless Frog Brigade too. While I think Flea is an amazing bass player I disagree that he's more unique than Les. I don't particularly find Flea to be unique as he plays primarily a funk bass style. Claypool is all over the place and highly progressive. The bottom line is they're both great bass players with different styles.

I'm basing it off of solos and primus. I think he's good but I'm just not feeling him as far as style. He's just not that great to me.

Claypool is great, so is Fea, but I still say Cliff is the best and he died at 24. Just think he could have gotten better too. He was still learning.

P-Nut is flat out awesome, he needs a solo band or a project to show off his chops outside of 311. P-Nut and Tim are so much better than the wannabe reggae BS that three eleven has turned into these days.

as a bass player myself, i have to say mark sandman (RIP) of morphine. the man played chords on a custom built two string bass with a glass slide as the lead instrument.

the man was also a big influence on les claypool for those who named him and don't know who sandman or morphine is.

i also have to give it up to anyone who plays a real bass (upright) in a modern band (jimbo of the reverend horton heat and lee rocker of the stray cats).<object width="425" height="344">

Upright basses sound the best, IMO. I love that sound in Reverend Horton Heat.
