DirecTV question...

Unfortunately I'll be moving back in w. my parents for the next 3-6 months. They have DTV but just the regular SD boxes and I don't want to have my 50" Samsung collecting dust while I'm living w. them.

Is it possible for me to get a HD box for only 6 months or are their annual contracts or something similar? I don't think it's like Comcast, where you can walk into the office one day to pick up an HD box and then return it whenever you want.

So to summarize, I want to know if I can order an HD box from them and return it whenever I feel like it.

I own my boxes, but I believe they will have to have the HD system added to their setup, which I haven't got around to doing, which means a technician will come and add the HD satellite I think. The box itself is like $100, but I don't know if that's included with the setup fee or not which I don't know for sure how much it is as well. The HD package is 9.99 a month and then if you are renting the equipment such as your box, it is like $5 a month for protection against the equipment, which means it's fully covered if anything happens. I don't know for sure if it's yours to keep or not seeing I own my own equipment and I don't pay the protection fee.

Usually there will be a contract, I think 1 year for the HD and 2 for the HD DVR. If they have the HD MPEG-4 dish, then all you would need is the receiver. You would be leasing that, but you would have to pay $100 or less if you can get a deal.

Whatever you do, get EVERYTHING IN WRITING from them before you agree to anything. I had someone from their "Office of the President" (yah, right) actually say to me that a lot of what they do is by verbal agreement. I'd bet a dime to a dollar that anything that has the letters H & D in what you do with them would have some type of 2 year agreement somewhere in small print or on an obsure place on their website.

I think I'll just pass, not worth the headache. I can still watch football on Sunday's at my buddies place in HD.
