    Staind: The Illusion of Progress

This bad boy has been out for about a month now, but I really didn't have the funds to buy it until today (picked up a wealthy paycheck). So I'll be setting out after my lab to do so.

I've heard most of the songs, and I personally love it. People who love the days of Tormented, Dysfunction, and Break the Cycle won't be too happy... Staind has used the same formula as Chapter V and 14 Shades of Grey and have been running on that with a few ballads and Aaron Lewis sustaining most of his lyrics during the chorus as usual. I really like it, though.

Like I said, I'll be picking it up today (hopefully with a more extensive review). Anyone else have any impressions thus far?

Didn't even know that it's out, but I must say this band has totally changed. Then again, Aaron Lewis doesn't have much to complain about these days. From the past few records, it's clear that he's in a better place then he was during the bands first three albums. Good for him, bad for the majority of their fan base.

Break the Cycle was a great album. Since then, I don't like the direction they've taken - reminds me too much of Nickleback.

I was actually going to say the same thing... his life was in shambles in the late 90s, but he's now married with kids, wealthy, the whole nine yards. Tough to stick with the same formula when the lyrics that you're expressing are no longer true to yourself, you know?

However, I still think they're good.

Oh I agree, I like new staind as well - just like Aaron Lewis, I'm in a better place as well. I listened to staind as a teenager, and I was ****ed so I really fell in love with their lyrics. I grew older, my tastes in music changed and I can appreciate personal growth. It wouldn't make sense if they stayed the same band.

You can only complain about the same **** for so long.

Staind is right at the top on my list of favorite bands. Although in my opinion their albums started getting softer after Break The Cycle, I still love the albums. I have every single one of their albums and I'll continue to by them just because I think Aaron Lewis is a lyrical genius.

I picked this album up the day it came out and I've listened to it about six times since then. I like it.

I'm a casual fan of Staind's previous work, and I've seen them in concert three times. But their live shows, IMO, have gotten progressively worse each time and I didn't like the new stuff they played when I heard them this summer. All this put together, my expectations for The Illusion of Progress were understandably low. But I actually think the album might be their most solid, mature top-to-bottom effort ever.
