Maybe it was setting something up, because it was pretty flat overall and that's uncommon for this show -- even if the episode isn't great, there are usually a few more hilarious moments sprinkled around.

Ah well, I trust the show.. they'll get it going again.
I thought last night's episode was great because it didn't have any relationship stuff in it. Maybe it's just me, but the constant Jim/Pam and Dwight/Angela/Andy stuff just was getting tiring.

I thought there were a lot of great moments from the episode. Michael trying to help the daughter with math (Mom: "Don't write that down, honey"), Oscar breaking down Swank's symmetrical face, Dwight being Dwight in his job interview, etc.

I definitely agree it wasn't the best episode, but I'm just glad that the writers aren't feeling compelled to base every episode around some relationship issue.

I agree for the most part, but it's just sort of incongruous when Andy is sitting there after having his heart broken and all he has to contribute to the episode was a raised hand indicating that he doesn't think Hillary Swank is hot. Just felt odd that there was no mention of it whatsoever.

The math thing was funny, forgot to mention that. I dunno, I mostly just wanted Michael to be able to do the right thing, but even that fell through in the end. The whole in-office plot wasn't funny to me at all really and just felt like a tacked-on attempt to add some time to the episode, much like the various out-of-office jaunts have been in the past. And this was the first time that I think Creed had a one-liner that wasn't funny, which was really disappointing, as he's been gold EVERY SINGLE TIME. Just a big fat "meh" to the whole plot. Maybe on a 2nd viewing I'll change my tune.. or maybe it did some key plot development that will pay off later.. somehow I doubt that though (especially the in-office storyline).

The last couple of episodes have made me feel like ****; which is not what I like from a comedy show.

The whole Dwight/Andy thing was just sad. And then this week with the small business and taking advantage of their honesty and care - that made me feel ****ing terrible at the end of the episode.

That's not what I watch the show for, so I will say I've been disappointed as of late.

It also goes against Michael. Michael does things because he's usually completely unaware of what he's doing. His character is not the kind of guy that would have done that to that family. He would have shredded that paper up and made something up.

I think this is all leading to something. Last week being called to new York for a meeting about what he is doing right. This week getting a job that is usually for a regional supervisor it seems like season 6 could start with mike in new York and Jim running the office, similar to season 3. It wasn't funny but it advanced a potential story line.

Well, in the BBC series David Brent was offered a promotion of Regional Sales Manager (ie: Jan's old job). I'm thinking they might lead Michael Scott into a similar situation.

Yeah, I don't know...it was more "painful Michael" than "funny Michael". It's a fine line between the two, but there were multiple times while watching where I just wanted to stop because it wasn't funny and just made me wince and feel bad for people. They used to make Michael be kinda painful but still funny, it's losing some of the funny for me.

That would be an interesting twist, and a twist that the series might need.

The oddness of it could be hilarious. Michael loves his own office but I could see him in New York, stumbling and bumbling to success a la a Maxwell Smart type character. Equally as funny would be Jim taking over back in Scranton. It always seems when Jim has the helm, chaos ensues. A re-occuring event could be Michael coming back to Scranton to clean up (or appear to) Jim's messes.

Sorry that was a totally off-topic tangent.

Hilarious, definitely want a little more Creed.
Not as big a fan of Creed as some members of the board. Appreciate his contribution, but there's a reason he's not a major character on the show. Didn't know:
                  1. His real name is Creed Bratton
                  2. He use to be a member of the Grass Roots rock band.

Yep, you can barely see him on this one, but he's the guitarist on the far left:

Man, I didn't know that. After searching for pictures of him as a member of Grass Roots, it appears his role in the band was similar to the show, supportive and in the background.

I think his character is done perfectly. His character wouldn't be as effective if you given too much of him. The mystery is his shtick.

I still love the episode where he dropped the ball on monitoring the quality control of some paper stock that had the drawing on it. How he manipulated the situation to get the lady fired. Collected money for a sympathy card, then tossed the card and kept the money. That was funny.
