    Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist

    Comes out October 3rd.

I just saw a pre-screening of it tonight. As always, there is the good and the bad... only where the good isn't great and the bad isn't horrible.

It's another Indie comedy, shades of Juno in the beginning but goes on its own style later on. It's incredibly short, maybe 80 minutes. Much like when I saw a pre-screening for Knocked Up (three months before it came out), I felt like they weren't finished editing, as some scenes and cuts just didn't quite gel like they should have (some voice mismatching as well).

In this movie, Michael Cera plays a role similar to his role as Paulie Bleeker, George-Michael Bluth, and Evan... don't know his last name in Superbad. Oh hell, he's Michael Cera. Same character every time, just a year older. The girls love him, awed him every chance they got, and they had more than plenty of chances. I think the biggest issue was he was the lead role this time. I see him as a better supporting actor than anything else, where the funny-funny guy needs to atop the casting list. Not to say he didn't fit his character, though. In fact, every actor fit their character quite well... I just wish they had different characters at times, though. Some of them didn't help the movie, like the chick in Fool's Gold that I seriously thought was playing a 15 year old slut (in Fool's Gold, anyway). However, this movie has a chalk full of recognizable cameos... no one huge. Kat Dennings is unconventionally attractive as well... definitely a girl to root for if you're a single [younger] guy.

This movie really had a feeling where it didn't know where it was going story-wise, though it did quite well with character development. In fact, its resolution came about 50 minutes in. But I believe it served its purpose (whatever it was). I didn't see any advertising for this movie before seeing it, so I don't really know who it was targeting or anything. I'll just say that its target is older than that of Juno and isn't as "family-oriented" I suppose, but it's still suitable seeing that it's PG-13.

I still had a problem with the movie, though. It was like... I didn't get the memo or something. There were just some scenes or instances where I felt like I should have had some prior knowledge of this movie's characters and vibe before seeing it, just by the nature of some things. It was like its own world, kind of like Lucky Number Slevin (and a bit like Juno as well, I suppose). Only in some parts, though. Nonetheless, I just didn't quite understand why some things happened in the movie, and I felt like I would have if I maybe saw an interview about it or something. I don't know.

Anyway, that's too much dissection. Go see it, I guess. I saw it for free, so I didn't need to be completely desperate to see it. Just remember that it's very short, so you may want to hop around when you're at the theater seeing this.

Slightly OT, next Wednesday I'm going to see a pre-screening of Eagle Eye as well, so if there's any kind of "dissection" you want for that movie, let me know beforehand.

Thanks for the synopsis. I saw the trailer for this and my curiosity was peaked. I like Cera as an actor and I dug the list of bands at the end of the trailer. I was on the fence because it seemed like a 'tween' movie to me, not to mention the PG-13 rating.

By your description, it seems like a good movie to take a date to.

I've seen a couple trailers and I'm looking forward to it, especially since Cera is in it.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Looks like it could be a good flick from the previews.

Re: Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist

Just let me throw it out there... this was a funny movie. Not only that, but it's one of the kind where the audience interacts with a lot of what's on screen. Kind of like, "She's not going to do it... she won't do it... don't do it... she just did it!" There will also be those moments where the audience just feels they need to clap at the screen. So, if you don't want to go somewhere where you feel the audience is ruining your ability to watch the movie, you may have to wait a couple weeks on this one.

Ridgeberg, this is definitely a movie to bring your girlfriend to. You may even get your money's worth after the flick.

Not feeling this movie at all judging by the previews. Might check it out once it hits netflix.

Cera was along for the ride. Nora(Kat Dennings), her best friend and Cera's homosexual friends made the movie.

Heh....I actually know Kat Dennings (aka: Kate Litwack). In real life, she acts pretty much exactly like her character in the 40-Year-Old Virgin.

Reminds me a little of Lizzy Caplan (The Class, Cloverfield) personality wise. How exactly do you know her?
