One witness said he was driving when a fireball streaked across the highway about 600 feet ahead of him. William Owens said he approached to see the two survivors frantically trying to remove their burning clothes.
"I noticed two guys who were on fire and it looked like a dance: They didn't know what to do," said Owens, a 60-year-old delivery van driver.
Goldstein had stripped off his own shirt and was helping Barker strip naked, said Owens, who was able to identify the men Saturday night because of news reports that showed Barker's extensive tattoos.
DJ AM, whose face was badly burned, was put into a medically induced coma, reports said. "More than 50 percent of his body is burned and the worst is on his face," a pal told E! online.

Re: Travis Barker (Blink 182) in plane crash
I wish him the best but....tough stuff. Welcome to life...I've had friends/family members in similar situations.
Not taking anything away fom him (I pray for him).
I think its funny how we make a big deal out of stuff like this, like any of us know him.
I wonder when they were on our death bed, would him or his family come praying fo us. I doubt it.Last edited by bsb13; 09-21-2008, 06:39 AM.Comment

Re: Travis Barker (Blink 182) in plane crash
How screwed up is it to think that it came down to what seats they were sitting in? They could have just as easily been sitting where the others were. Just like how Burton of Metallica died - "won" the bunk he was in.Comment

Re: Travis Barker (Blink 182) in plane crash
Dr. expects full recovery. WOnder if full means no visable scars or full as in they will live. Are 2nd and 3rd degree burns worse than 1st? Can't remember the order it goes.

Re: Travis Barker (Blink 182) in plane crash
2nd and 3rd degree are worse, yes.
And I am sure there will be scars, full recovery usually means (with 2nd and 3rd degree burns) that there is no need for skin grafts, that the limbs will still be fully functional, and that they will be alive.
I wonder if Travis will just get some tattoos to cover the scars up, or if he can even get scarred skin tattooed.Comment

Yeah, I figured it would probably hurt like hell.
I doubt he'll do it, but he's got tattoos everywhere else so I'm sure it's a possibility with him. I just hope he heals quickly and doesn't have to deal with too much pain.Comment

Yep, same thing with the L.S Band. Also, Kirk was going to sleep in that bed, but Cliff won the bet and got to pick that bed. Life has it wired moments.Comment

Not that tattoos don't already hurt, I would think tattooing scarred skin like that would be unbearable.

Travis' injuries are below the waist so he can hide it easy. The DJ on the other hand has his face and head burned, sounds pretty bad.My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: Travis Barker (Blink 182) in plane crash
Wow.....
I hate to hear about anyone being burned...and trust me this is bad.
Full recovery?(I think the doctor is being a little "loose" with that phrase IMO)....that's good to hear, but with 2nd and 3rd degree burns, especially to the guy burned over 50% of his body....the recovery will be EXTENSIVE.....and just because the doctor stated "full recovery"....it does not mean no skin grafts. Burns over 25 % of the body are considered EXTREMELY serious...and burns to 60% are usually fatal.
Third degree burns go through three layers....the epidermis(skin)..the dermis and the hypodermis.....that's not going to just heal back to normal(third degree burns sometimes expose muscle and bone). That is extreme tissue damage. There will be A LOT of scarring.
I've suffered 2nd degree burns(with MINOR 3rd degree burns)....and it took over 2 months to just not have to visit the Burn Center regularly. When they scrubbed it(to reduce scarring, help healing and help prevent infection) I wanted to cry for my mother. It's like basically taking steel wool and scraping away the dead tissue. I basically used a 55 gallon drum of siverdine(medication to help heal burns...a cream)
If the burns to the hand are bad, unfortunately it may mean amputation of the fingers. The blood vessels to the fingers are easily damaged and when burned the finger starts to look like a burnt sharpened stick(sorry for the graphic explanation...but it's the only thing I can think of how it looks).
It sucks...I've watched buddies of mine with burned hands. The doctors try their best to get the circulation back....but once it's gone, there is nothing they can really do. It was heart wrenching to speak to the guys when they found out they would lose part or all of their fingers....and this happened with F.D. gloves on..
Even though it's very difficult....I try and go to the Burn Center to visit with the patients. I'll admit, I don't go as often as I should(I don't want to say "want to"...because I think you know I don't "want to").
I feel for these guys.....not because they are stars...but because they are really going to have it tough for quite some time.
Good time to ask you guys to donate to your local Burn Center...they all do outstanding work...and it's a very expensive treatment...and a lot of the time it's kids, whose parents don't have proper medical insurance, that are the patients. They could always use the help.
M.K.

Great informative post Knight. I've heard about how bad the scrubbing and skin grafts were, I just hope these guys recover as painless as possible (or any burn victims as a matter of fact)Eagles, 76ers, Phillies, Arsenal FC, Wildcats, Vols
