I think that problem people should be able to believe what they want. I guess I see it difference.

There are just as many mature people who really won't care (especially by the time the kid is older - as people become more accepting) either way. Especially when Homosexual families are becoming rather common these days (I know several myself. They're just like any other family, they just happen to have parents of the same gender, no big deal at all).
I hope your right. I have not seen it this way for the kids yet. But who knows maybe it will be alright for him.

          A quick question, though.

If someone posted about black people and started tossing the N word around and basically acting racist, would it be tolerated, and would you feel the same about it?

I can see where you're coming from, but the whole thing with homosexuality is that apparently in 2008 it's not ok to be sexist. it's not ok to be racist. It's not ok to be ageist. it's not ok to judge someone based on their religion. But it's perfectly fine to judge someone based on thier sexuality, and to make comments about it.

Exactly. Though I think I know what the response to this will be.

Sure it is not OK, but it doesn't change the fact that some disagree with it. They should have the right to disagree with it, just like some have the right to agree to it.

Scott I am with you. If luv mist believes that this is wrong then so be it. I think it is wrong too.

But I guess since I am against it I should stay silent.

There are clowns on campus who like to have there out of the closet week and everyone is supposed to be supportive of that and have nothing to say but positive things. But the first time a speaker comes out talking about homosexuality as a sin and they come and heckle and call the cops. Explain to me how that is right.

This thread is going down the tubes.

All I gotta say is, he shouldn't have felt the pressure to admit it but even so what's the big deal? People should be free to live the lives they want to (within reason) without others (like some in this thread) going off the deep end as if it's some terrible affliction that's pure evil and needs to be rid of.

That is what is great about America. You can believe what you want. I have my own beliefs on this because of my religious background, but if someone wants to be gay I say more power to them. I do know one thing this kid will have to deal with a lot of crap, sure it is wrong, but it is what it is.

I agree, to a point. Well stated.

Well, if you believe that homosexuality is genetic then I can see an argument for it being OK to heckle the speaker. Though, unless the speech was hateful, he should have been able to give his speech uninterrupted.

Yeah, I wish i could agree with it, but I find it not so great as well - because the sides start stepping on toes, and we have riots, and hate speeches/pickets (like when that gay kid was killed and that huge group went to the funeral to protest it, call him hateful words, and basically condemn him and his family - making what was already a hard enough even in their lives, even harder.

Of course, they were on public property, and they have the right to say and think what they want...

Sometimes freedom of speech is taken absolutely way too far.

But for the dealing with crap, I'm going to say it's not really certain at all. Like I said, I know gay families, and you'd be surprised at how little trouble they have with it. When it comes down to it, kids are going to pick on kids no matter what, it just comes down to what they pick on them about. The people I've known have had far more support than they have hate. You'd be surprised, I'd think.
