    Johnny Depp

Man, is this the "it" guy in Hollywood now or what? I just read that he has been cast to play Tonto in the live action remake of The Lone Ranger, then there are the never ending rumors of being in the next Batman as The Riddler. Now Disney is confirming that they are shooting another Pirates of the Caribbean that will focus largely on Capt. Jack's newest adventure after the last film ended, then there is the rendition of Alice in Wonderland that Tim Burton is doing and Depp is playing the Mad Hatter in that movie. What do you guys think of Depp as an actor and all these new roles he is going to be taking on?

Maybe Im not with it but I was surprised by the news that there was another Pirates coming out, had no clue they were making a live action Long Ranger movie and didnt know about Alice in Wonderland either so this is all a surprise to me so if someone already knew all of this then apologies.

I knew there was a 4th Pirates movie coming out - didn't know about the other ones though.

As for Depp as an actor - he's one of my favorites in Hollywood. In the movies of his I liked, he's been amazing: Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Pirates 1-3, Donnie Brasco, Blow, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, etc.

      Re: Johnny Depp

I knew about the Wonderland movie but that's it. Hmm I wonder what kind of slant they'll take on a new Lone Ranger? Anyways, I think Depp is one of those actors that can possibly get away with being in a lot of movies in a relatively short period of time because he has the ability to disguise himself very well. He will have to watch his step though as we've seen other actors become the "It" guy and flame out a bit.

      Ben Stiller
      Will Ferrell (to an extent)
      Sly Stallone
      Ahnold

I'm actually looking forward to see how Burton does Wonderland as I hear it's going to be a little closer to the original source material in tone.

        Re: Johnny Depp

According to the link the Lone Ranger movie is going to focus on Tonto saving The Lone Ranger and then their start of vigilante justice or something like that.

EDIT- To add to this, he just finished one movie called The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and another called Public Enemies that deals with capturing John Dillinger amongst other gangsters, Depp plays Dillinger and Christian Bale is in this movie as well. Currently he is shooting Alice in Wonderland, and then he has Shantaram, Rango, Dark Shadows, The Rum Diary coming up, then there is Sin City 3 that he is rumored to be in as well as The Lone Ranger and another Pirates, I would say he has a ton of movies he is currently tied to.

Thanks, Sounds like they're going to make this a gritty and "adult" western. Way to change things Hollywood!

Eh, i'll probably check it out

Depp, Jude Law, Colin Farrell came together to finish Heath Ledger's role.

I knew that name was familiar but I couldnt place where I had heard it at. On a side note, the video doesnt actually load a preview for the movie, not sure whats wrong with it but it doesnt load anything actually.

I thought the Tonto one was more about Tonto. At least that is what I heard today when they talked about it on the radio.

Depp is one of the greatest character actors of our generation but I'm not a fan of the Pirates franchise (I really think he did these for his kid).

Depp's portrayal in POTC 1 was unparalleled. Thank God for Keith Richards drinking and drugging as much as he did so that he could model a good voice for Depp to use. Pirates 2 & 3 really watered down the story and got too cliche imo. His portrayal of Willy Wonka I remember when I first saw it kind of wow'd me. He brought a unique display of the guy's conflictual internal battle as on one hand he is making "kid food" and on the other has an overt competition going on while he works out his own inner "daddy" demons. His witty barbs back to the kids are hilarious (Little boy, you need to stop mumbling, because I can't even understand what you're saying...k?).

Seriously, that's one of the few remakes that I thought were superior to the original. I love that movie.
