Sad, he was one my favorite actors that my dad showed me during the weekends while growing up.

For you young 'uns who may not be too familiar with Mr Newman, do yourself a favor and rent:

            1) Cool Hand Luke
            2) Butch Cassidy
            3) The Sting
            4) The Hustler
            5) The Verdict
            6) The Color of Money
            7) Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

His charity (Hole in the Wall Gang) also donated literally tens of millions of dollars to kids with cancer and other causes.

I just rented The Sting since my g/f never saw it and she loved it. What a true icon in the film industry...rest in peace.

Hey Capa, no love for Absence of Malice?

Then again, it might be a bit slow for some of the younger guys here.

Also Somebody Up There Likes Me, the story of middleweight champion Rocky Graziano. The role was originally assigned to James Dean, but he died in an auto accident in 1955. Newman was an unknown before that film.

Yeah...I missed that one. It is a bit plodding and I am not a big Sally Field fan, but he does a nice job as usual.

And yeah, Somebody Up There Likes Me was really his breakout role.

By the way, I live like 15 minutes from his home in Westport...used to see him fairly often around CT. A real, normal everyman. No airs about him. He'd have a beer with you at the bar..as long as you didn't ask for his autograph!

His food products are awesome and will be a great lasting legacy. It's pretty sweet how he gives all the profits after production costs to charity.

Paul Newman is never gonna die. He will live on through his awesome lemonade.

No, I think she is a bit more reclusive and private than he is. I only see her at formal functions like awards and charity dinners...but never saw her about town. Then again, it's the luck of the draw when you run into these famous people. They used to attend the Westport Theatre fairly often and were big supporters and backers. But I know some people who have met her and she is very nice and accomodating. Just a wonderful couple who never took themselves too seriously. And both a huge talents.
