    Make Firefox Faster

    http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Make-...r-t177375.html

    Make Firefox Faster

    1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll
down and look for the following entries:

    network.http.pipelining
    network.http.proxy.pipelining
    network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time.
When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really
    speeds up page loading.

    2. Alter the entries as follows:

    Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

    Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to any number around 5-12. This
means it will make X requests at once, depending on the number you put in.

NOTE: A recommended number is either 8 or 12.

    3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New > Integer.
Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0".
This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages 2-3 times faster now.

IMPORTANT: Some small sites may block your connection because it DOES take up more bandwidth than usual. Take note.

    It definitely helps

          Re: Make Firefox Faster

I wouldn't say 2-3 times faster but for sure it does increase the speed of the browser.

The speed after that change feels more like chrome to me, and from my experiences chrome is quicker and a "lighter" load on the computer.

I can see the difference. Forgot completely about doing the enhancements when first getting Linux.

That setting actually will slow down overall page loading.

                  Actually counter-productive,as well.

The settings in the original post can also make your browser very unfriendly to small websites. These have been bandied about for several years now,and have been pretty much debunked;FF3x has newer defaults that also may make these even less relevant.
