    Anberlin - "New Surrender"

I know I've seen quite a few Anberlin fans on the boards so I thought it was thread worthy. Anyone pick up this new album?

I downloaded it today and loved it. I swear, Anberlin has not managed to make an album that I didn't love.

I know some fans thought they sold out going to Universal Records but I don't get that feel after listening to the album. I doubt they'll get radio play which is more than fine by me.

They actually re-did one of their previous songs "Feel Good Drag". I don't think it's any better but it's certainly not any worse. Just another kinda of sound. My favorite song so far is Breathe and Misearbile Visu (Ex Malo Bonum)

    1. "The Resistance"
    2. "Breaking"
    3. "Blame Me! Blame Me!"
    4. "Retrace"
    5. "Feel Good Drag"
    6. "Disappear"
    7. "Breathe"
    8. "Burn Out Brighter (Northern Lights)"
    9. "Younglife"
    10. "Haight St."
    11. "Soft Skeletons"
    12. "Misearbile Visu (Ex Malo Bonum)"

If you'd like the link, just send me a PM. Even if you aren't an Anberlin fan, I'd suggest you check it out.

PS: This is what lead singer Stephen Christian said about why the album is titled "New Surrender" and I really like it:
We will all come to the point in our life where we have to admit that we feel defeated, that something has conquered us. We must change, not because we want to, but because we desperately have to. We can not take life in its current suffocating state, even to admit such desperation shows that we are feeling deserted, wandering the barren desert, a shell of our former selves. It is only up from here, it is impossible to sink any lower into ourselves or our circumstances. But we can be salvaged, a deliverance. No vice can stand, no fix can take. The thorn in the side can be removed, but you have to be willing to admit and surrender. Surrender your habits, your lifestyle, your past, your present, and your future. This is your new surrender. The new surrender.

Too be honest i've never heard of Anberlin til I saw this topic, and upon checking out a few of their songs they seem to be pretty good.

I'll probably pick up their new disk and come back to this topic but I like what i've heard of them now.

Anberlin has been one of my favorite bands for a good while now. I was fortunate to see them before Cities came out, and they didnt dissapoint. Great band, great music. Good to see some other folks listening as well.

Now, if we can only get them on Rock Band!

          Re: Anberlin - "New Surrender"

Listened once through, and it might be my new favorite Anberlin album. "Never Take Friendship Personal" had been my favorite (though my favorite Anberlin song is still "Readyfuels" off the first album). I personally prefer the updated version of "Feel Good Drag." Also enjoyed "Haight St.," "Disappear," and "The Resistance" but I really found them all to be good. "Blame Me! Blame Me!" was pretty average IMO, but that's the only song I found moderately skippable. The first half of Miserabile visu is a bit slow for my taste, but the song picks up and recovers nicely in the second half so it's worth listening to in my book.

I personally thought "Cities" had been a big step back. "Blueprints" had a few amazing songs and some good songs, "Friendship" had a bunch of really good songs, but nothing on "Cities" really wowed me. So I really didn't know where they were going to take this one, especially moving to a major label. I am really impressed, though, as it seems they took the best aspects of "Cities" and combined it with the older stuff to create an excellent album.

              Re: Anberlin - "New Surrender"

Anberlin is so solid. Not a song by them that I can't listen to. They do a good job of mixing it up too; good rock and then they come through with some slower songs too without being too cheesy.

"The Resistance", "Blame Me! Blame Me!", and "Disappear" have all stuck in my head. "The Feel Good Drag" of course is a good, updated version of the song from Never Take Friendship Personal.

You can also listen to the whole CD on their MySpace ( www.myspace.com/anberlin ), just click the drop down box and click on New Surrender. The new MySpace players are great.

So much good music coming out so close to one another. Bayside, Anberlin, Rise Against, Funeral for a Friend. It's been awesome so far!

"Disappear" is probably my favorite right now. I like the new version of "The Feel Good Drag", but I like the old one a little better I think. I don't know.
