    Question about plasma screens

Basically I'm typing this for my boy Streets because he's in the middle of a move right now.
One of our friends has offered to sell him his 40 inch Samsung plasma tv to him for 600 bucks. He wants to get the most bang for his buck so he was wondering if this was a good deal or would he be better off getting an LCD set.

If the LCD is the way to go he will just wait until black friday to get it. Let me know what you guys think.

Is there a way for him to see it running before he buys it? You wanna make sure the TV doesn't have any Burn-In going-on

I would hold off on this. The price for LCD and plasma tvs has been declining over the last year. If he waits till black Friday he might possibly be able to get a bigger tv brand new for between 400 - 500; maybe even lower than that.

Right now you can find new 42" LCD tvs for 699.

Yeah we've seen it. Our boy takes really good care of all his stuff so we know it has no burn-in. Thanks for the responses guys. If anyone else has any info they want to share I'd love to hear it.

Ehh. Sounds like a good deal, but too many unknown variables. How many hours has it been used? What settings have the tv been used on? (vivid/torch mode aren't ideal in the long run)

Just personal preference, but I'd go plasma over LCD if the pricing is comparable.

              Re: Question about plasma screens

I have heard that prices on TV are going to be cheap this holiday season. So if you can wait.

I have a friend who was going to sell me a Samsung 32 LCD for $600, which was a decent deal but I am holding off until Christmas time.
