On one hand, I admire this as long as it doesn't deter from the beauty of the landmark (or the view below, from above) itself. On the other hand, I only wish they had done this three years ago before my friend jumped. On the third hand (going octopus here), most people that contemplate suicide can probably find another way, so I don't really know if this solves anything.

Re: Golden Gate Bridge to add "suicide net"
I applaud them for trying, but its only gonna cut down the numbers by a little bit because you're gonna get those people who have an epiphany once they realize they tried to jump. But unless the have a way to keep people on the net, some people will find a way to the water -

Re: Golden Gate Bridge to add "suicide net"
Yeah, I don't wanna make it seem like I'm saying its not worth it, I just hope that they aren't looking at this as the solution they've been looking for to stop all of this. I do know its gonna be very beneficial, though, especially after that Golden Gate Bridge suicide documentary came out and one of the guys that jumped and survived said that as soon as he jumped he knew he made a mistake. So with that stopping them, they'll have to think more and more about what they're doingComment

Yeah, but its gotta be an extra crappy feeling when you're weightless, thinking about what you did for a few seconds before you hit the waterComment

man, I can't imagine jumping off a bridge. I think I would find another way if I wanted to do it.My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: Golden Gate Bridge to add "suicide net"
this should have been done years (and i mean 25 - 30 years) ago. i've been that depressed and down and on the brink of collapse. anything that can be taken away as a possible tool, for lack of a better word, should be.Individuality: Always remember that you are unique. Just like everybody else.

People are going to go to jump, see the net, and just jump into oncoming traffic instead.Comment

I really don't think they are trying to save lives. They are just tired of a historic landmark being used as a suicide tool.Comment

Re: Golden Gate Bridge to add "suicide net"
Is this really a net? It looks more like a steel netting, not a loose net that would gradually slow you down. What's going to happen is people are going to jump and hit that and get hurt. Then they can sue the city and get a lot of money. Also, how are the people going to get backup? Is the city going to have to spend a lot of money going and getting people who got stuck on the netting.Comment
