Closer to 15-20 years. Burn-in was really the only knock on plasmas....that's almost a non-existent argument with the newer ones.

To the OP, definitely hold out for Black Friday ads. You should be able to find a great deal on a plasma or lcd. You normally don't have to wait in line on the tvs....that's more on the ultra cheap laptops and newest video game systems.

Eventually, Best Buy refunded it (sortof) and he "downgraded to a 50 inch Plasma which has been perfect for about a year and a half.
So he got a bad TV. It doesn't mean all Samsungs are bad. I've had a 50'' Samsung DLP for 15 months and couldn't be more happy with the purchase.

Hmm I'm looking at either DLP or Plasma but it looks like this will be a tough decision.

You get more for your money with DLP, I got a 70" 1080P JVC for $2700, a 70" plasma would be $$$$.

Ya, there's a co. on Ebay selling 58" Samsung DLP that would be around $1100 shipped after my 10% coupon shipped. Apparently there's a live.com search that activates a 30% off with certain Ebay items, but I don't know exactly how or even if it could be matched up with this Buy-It-Now item. 58" plasma or even LCD would be beaucoup change.

                Re: Plasma vs DLP

DLP's really do have amazing pictures, and I'm saying that as a plasma owner. But the picture is only great if you're relatively in front of the set, whereas plasma you can sit at pretty severe angles and still get a good picture. I'd recommend going to a store, finding a DLP, and watching it from the variety of angles you'll have in your room.

At the same time, plasma really is a terrific choice. I love the Panasonic I bought three years ago. You do need to break it in for the first 100-200 hours, but that usually can be accomplished in your first month or sooner. It took me about three weeks. Once it's broken in, the technology is pretty robust. It is difficult (thought no impossible) to get permanent burn-in on a plasma these days. I game about 10-12 hours a week on mine with no problems. The prices are also pretty good these days.

If you get a 50" set or bigger, get the 1080p. You will notice the difference on Blu-Ray content. At 42-46", the difference becomes harder to tell.
