I think the combo of drugs and a bad motorcycle accident he was involved in during the 80's messed up his wiring. I don't think he was always like that.

      Either way....he's a riot.

Not that this means much when it comes to Busey, but the Beatles best work came when they were smoking pot, using LSD, etc. (I'm not saying drugs were the sole reason for the Beatles increase in creativity, but they were a contributing factor). So it's possible for drugs to positively influence a person's ideas.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you're not a D.A.R.E. officer. I'm also going to go out on a further limb and say you don't have any kids.....because that's probably one of the top 5 single stupidest statements I've read around here.

I don't understand why that's so stupid. I was just speaking to one aspect of a select few drugs. I didn't see any reason to point out that drug use is usually bad and drug abuse is always bad. I figured that was already understood.

It's a correct statement. It's not even an arguable statement. Now, whether drugs are worth the consequences is certainly debatable, but saying that they cannot positively influence creativity is incorrect.

"Positively influence" is now an inargueable and completely and scientifically correct term? Maybe it has an "alternating" effect on creativity, but influences in a "positive" manner? Then, we're just talking massive subjectivity. Now, THAT'S something that inargueable.

Not to get off subject...but lets ask...

Charlie Parker, Hendrx, Coltrain, Janis Joplin, Jerry Garcia,, Charles Mingus, and countless other artists who have used "creativity enhancing" drugs and had what many would consider "positive effects" on their lives.

Oh, wait...some of these guys where truly insane and died way to early due to their "Habits"

I think I just countered my own argument.

Which is completely irrelevant. It's like saying "A Ferrari can't go fast because if you drive at 200 miles an hour, you can crash and die."

Saying drugs can't influence a person's ideas is ridiculous. It's basically saying that cocaine, ecstasy, heroin, LSD, and others don't do what they have been scientifically proven to do. Obviously it's not worth your life to feel good for a short period of time, but denying that drugs can influence ideas is arguing against facts.

That wasn't the original argument. The argument was that drugs can "positively influence creativity", not ideas. Of course drugs can and do influence ideas, perception and thinking as well as emotions, mind/body interactions, etc. The supposed supporting example given was that the Beatles did their "best work" after they started using. How do we know? Fact is we can't. We don't have anything (apparently) they did in the same time frame when they weren't under the influence. So, therefore it's not an arguement of fact, but of preference and opinion.

Gary Busey's "idea" was to drug up, ride around at high speeds on his motorcycle and not wear a helmet. Yup, that's an idea alright.
