    Re: Rental: Gamefly vs. Blockbuster

My above post was foolish and I demand a retraction....from myself.

Gamefly sucks for a sports gamer who really just wants to get specific games. I waited for over a month to get NCAA Basketball....never got it.

Anyway I thought I would be fiscally responsible and instead of buying games I would just rotate my non-PC sports games with gamefly. Well all the games I wanted (NHL, NCAA Basketball, Madden, Head Coach) have been on low availability. So for about two weeks I paid $25 for no games.

I guess if you play a lot of video games and don't mind getting a bunch of random games this is the thing for you but Gamefly was a waste of money for me!

Yeah, I can't imagine using this to play sports games only.

I used it this fall with the crazy number of non-sports releases I wanted to play and it was great...yeah, shipping times kinda suck, but still saved me money from dropping 60 on a game.

You're better off just buying the sports games you want and selling them on eBay or to Gamestop when you're done.

YEah, sports games are always gone. I use GF mostly for things like Fable 2 that I wanted to play for longer than 5 days but am not planning to buy. However I also get non-sports games that I know I will love and want to buy (Mass Effect, GTA IV) because I'll be able to get them for ~$40 new the day after release. That's probably the biggest advantage that GF has.. the discounts on games and the ability to buy them immediately upon release if you get them in the mail.

Gamefly is pretty good. I usually get games 1 or 2 days after they ship it. I only keep about 2 games qeued at a time.

I signed up again for Gamefly and so far so good. I dont count on Gamefly for sports games but I do attempt to get them when they first come out, for instance when the new MLB The Show comes out I will send back a game 4-5 days before it releases, clear out my queue leaving only that one game in there and attempt to get it, if it works then I keep it and buy it from them or I go to the store buy it and rent something else from Gamefly if it doesnt. The service seems hit or miss at times, last time I had this there were times when it would take 4-5 days for a game to arrive from California to Oregon and then other times it got here in 1-2 days so it seems completely random.
