I haven't read one review yet and probably won't. I'm still going to stay excited for this.

I am glad the early reviews seem positive. You know some people always hate just to hate on movies with hype.

I honestly think that's what it is with this movie. All the trailers, billboards, interviews, and articles on this film have given it what I like to call "Reggie Bush coming out of USC syndrome."

It's been sooooo hyped that critics are bound to overlook its greatness by comparing to Ledger's performance in TDK, thus giving it a negative rating. I just think that's the silliest notion I've read with the negative reviews. They all seem to have that common theme. "Well there's no Joker so this movie is a disappointment." : No disrespect to Ledger, but what do you want Chris Nolan to do? Raise Heath from the dead? Jeez get over it already! From people that have seen it over on SuperHeroHype, it's been UNIVERSAL that this film is the best of the three for several reasons:

1.) Beautiful cinematography
2.) The plot, action, and emotional weight of this movie is on a much grander scale compared to the other two
3.) It reverts back to the first two films nicely, giving it that "full circle" feeling you want in a trilogy.
4.) Last 20 mins or so is unbelievable from what I hear. I don't know the ending, but for those that have seen it over there, they say its one of the best endings to a film in quite some time.

5.) Bale's performance is better in this one than the other two combined which gives Bruce Wayne/Batman's character more importance leading up to the finale compared to being a bit overshadowed by the Joker in TDK.

Just ordered my tickets for Friday evening. I'm so pumped! God bless my wife, who agreed to stay home with our 10-month old so her niece and I could go see it on opening night.

The negative reviews I've been reading seem to be pretty well-thought out criticisms of the film. None of them really compared performances to Ledger one on one, but he was a very big part of TDK's success so that comparison is still valid to me. A lot of the problems seem to come down to its length, "wasted" characters, and logic issues (which is to be expected considering the first two films). Of course people are going to be nit-picky, but I'm more inclined to know and understand where critics are coming from rather than fan-boys who are still riding that wave of euphoria.

I'll give it a week or so until the fanboy response settles down before I'll try and measure its place amongst the rest of the series. I know my initial reaction to TDK was way over-blown compared to what I've settled with.

From the spoiler-free quotes I've seen of the negative reviews, people's comparison of Ledger's Joker to Hardy's Bane was a reason I kept seeing as to why they didn't like TDKR. I just think as a critic, you have to judge a movie on its own merit. Is the story and acting well done? Is the film shot well with believable special effects? If so, give me examples. If not, what was your beef? I don't wanna hear that you were disappointed in a movie cause it's not like another movie. I just think that's an unfair viewpoint some critics are taking.

I think its fair to draw comparisons to other films, especially within the same series. If TDK is the supposed pinnacle, it would be silly not to compare TDKR to it especially when it contained such an iconic performance that really elevated the entire film. If Bane is a "wasted" character and is a big void compared to what Ledger managed to do, I think that is a valid criticism. I don't think they simply want more Joker and don't like TDKR because its without him, but I think its fair to want another villain that is just as compelling.

Ben-Hur was a historical epic and "deserves" its almost 4hr running time, but Batman doesn't need to overstay his welcome.

Again, not trying to speak for anybody, but I get the feeling from reading a lot of critical pieces, reviews and articles that if it was about something else it would be okay, but it's too much for a movie about a character from the funny books.

Exactly. That's why I don't get it when people say The Dark Knight was "too long." I just watched TDK this past weekend and not once did I feel that "Nolan could've/should've cut this part out." It's well-paced, each scene has a purpose and if anything, it's relentless and hardly gives you a moment to breathe. So every time I come across these "it's too long" criticisms with The Dark Knight Rises, I just brush it off.
