Am I the only one who would think this would not be a good idea if they used the names of real gangs, the last thing our society needs is more glorification of gangs and violence and to have this remake serve as an anthem to real life gang members. I think it's best to keep it more in the fantasy realm with the type of gangs used like they did in the original.

I could just see some of these bonehead gang members shooting each other in real life over some perceived slight that happens in the movie. Gang members are not among the brightest bulbs in the room and have a hard enough time now separating reality from fiction without a movie to spur them on even more.

Fair point,I know in my post I said real gangs, but I think it can be altered enough so that it isn't naming specific gangs by street and set name, etc....
Not using Red and Blue and using two different colors, but having it set in LA, would be true enough to real.

The story goes back thousands of years, I think it is in the details, and to give it comic book feel like in Warriors (NY), but just have it set in another city would be a disapointment. IMO

Well, In the original the Warriors had to get back to Coney Island. In this one I guess they will go from east LA to Long beach. Los Angeles residents can give better suggestions than me about the geography of it.

there already has been a lot of remakes. Pretty Hit or miss on how good they are.

The one thing I don't get about having it set in LA is getting back home. In NY, not having a car is common. You would need the subway to get from the Bronx to Brooklyn. If the subway was out you would have to travel by foot. Or cab (not so much for a gang I guess).

Any gang movie set in LA that I have seen, some member always has a car. What would deter them from driving home.

should have seen this coming, but it's still not as bad as remaking the rocky horror picture show.

hollywood seriously needs some new ideas. Can't the wayans brothers just make a new movie instead?

Honestly, The Warriors is one of those movies that if people weren't aware of its "cult" following going in, few would say it's a great movie.

Figured this movie was going to get remade at some point. I remember sneaking to see this in theaters when I was really young and left feeling totally badazz lol. Part of the charm of the first one was the themed gangs; don't think that'd play in a modern movie. Another thing about the fighting in the first movie was the fistfighting/hand to hand, where now it'd be all about shooting guns

One of my all time favorites.

I would be ok with the remake if it had a more realistic therefore, different look to it .

Part of what was so good about the original was some of the unusual gangs. Baseball furies, Rollerskating gang, etc... To me it could be different enough if it used some real LA gangs.

I am pretty sure the movie was made from a book, and the book was based on some story from ancient greece about a group of soldiers working their way back home after a battle.

The book was based on the Anabasis. Walter Hill based the movie on the book, but actually had to change some things.

For example, he intended for the gang to be all black as in the book, but was pressured to make it a multi ethnic group. The gang was also sanitized to make them more appealing to the public (not commiting gang rape and other sadistic crimes).

The book did not glorify the gang at all, whereas the movie made it a "futuristic" depiction of the criminal underworld. It was supposed to be a comic book like film (ala the 300).

I love the movie and consider it one of my favorites. Obviously it's nowhere close to a factual depitcion of gang life or gang warfare, but it's a cheesy delight.

The "remake" is not going to have anything to do with the original move, except for the basic principle of a gang trying to get frmo point a to point b and facing adversity.

Walter Hill apparently refused to grant any of the rights from the original to Tony Scott, so I don't thank anyone needs to worry about the original being defiled.
