Re: Is blu-ray in trouble?
If Blu-ray doesn't make the mark they expect over the next year, I can see it more as a niche market. But I doubt it goes away anytime soon. UMD is still around. LOL!Comment

Re: Is blu-ray in trouble?
In this age of technology, I doubt there will be one format long enough to consider it a hold on the market.
There are always going to be newer media storage discs that hold more capacity than the one before while offering a lower price and stronger encryption data.
It's like the computer. It'll be a never-ending cycle. It'll just be up to you to decide on which format you prefer to choose."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Is blu-ray in trouble?
there's less than 20 million ps3's sold worldwide. Bluray has a long, long way to go before it's actually safe from the possibility of being killed off. It'll still probably never touch the market penetration of DVD.
The main thing with this, if it happens, is the claim that the retail prices for the RDM players and discs could equal those of the the current DVD format. They claim their technology can be implemented into existing DVD production. So it's essentially an upgraded DVD. So it could be better quality than bluray, and cheaper.Comment
