I just sold my old cell phone yesterday for $55, and it is being held. So you are saying if I refund the buyer 1 cent now, the money will become available?

I will not use PayPal from this point on so if I can do something like this to them I will. Ebay and PayPal have both gone to hell.

yes. Just refund .01 and it'll immediately lift the hold.

I just see this as using the system to get my money. It's their fault that they have such a poorly implemented hold process that it's undone by a 1 cent refund.

Ebay used to be the first place I looked to buy or sell about anything. Now I use it as a last resort. Their policies have regressed and as others have stated PayPal is just broken on so many levels. Even a few years back two friends of mine had a nice business selling ipods for some distributor and one day PayPal froze their account and refused to give them an explanation as to why.

Can you explain that in more detail? I want to make sure I don't run into any problems like you guys have had.

When selling something and accepting PayPal for payment, PayPal holds to money for 21 days so in their mind everything goes well with the transaction.

Not in front of me now, but if you click on the transaction detail you will see refund money to the buyer or something like that. If you refund the buyer .01, the hold PayPal has on your funds will go away and you can now transfer it to your bank account. Hope that helps.

Re: ebay + paypal = migraine

okay, I now know what caused this. One guy couldn't wait for a reasonable amount of time and filed a paypal complaint and left negative feedback way too early. He still got the item and we got both complaints pulled. However, it still affected my DSR. Now ebay has banned me from selling anything because..

"Sellers are required to maintain a rating of at least 4.1 on each DSR to sell on eBay. Sellers with one or more DSR below 4.1 will be restricted from listing until their DSRs improve. Additionally, sellers with one or more DSR below 4.3 may be subject to lowered standing in search results."

Two things. I have 100% positive feedback in over 100 hundred transactions that buyers actually felt compelled to leave feedback for. Also, how can I improve my DSR numbers if I can't sell anything? Oh, I have to wait a month or more until the one rating that was tied to a revised negative feedback comes off their stupid ratings.

I can't wait for this site to die off. Seriously, how does someone with only 102 feedback live through this when one stupid buyer can get your account banned from selling, even if they later revise their feedback. Ebay only wants powersellers on their site now.

I have never had any payments held. Just this week I withdrew money from a sale on the same day that I received it. What exactly triggers this hold on the funds?

I have sold things on ebay also with no problem, but ebay is really starting to suck.

I just stick to selling and buying games and I haven't had any major problems.

The fees between the two of them are pretty high but I still think it is better that trading games in to EB or Gamespot.

No clue. I have 33 stars and 100% feedback on Ebay. I always do a Buy It Now through PayPal and that was the first time I had funds held. I mostly sell video games. The last item I sold was my old cell phone for $54.00. Not sure if being over $50.00 triggered something?

Sad, the last 3 or 4 people I have sold to don't even have the decency to leave feedback after I promptly shipped them a quality as described item. Thankfully I am done with Ebay & PayPal.

I think its a mixture of your rating, feedback percentage, DSR ratings and whether or not the item is included on the dangerous list or "more likely to be a fraud" list. I have nearly 300, 100% feedback and not a single DSR below 4.8 so when I sold Saints Row 2 the other day I didnt have to wait at all to get my money.

sold my Wii on ebay. I refunded the buyer a penny, still has a hold on my money. this is some bull****.

edit: it worked. refunded the buyer .01, took the hold off...lol. Never again. Only reason I went ebay is because the scammers have infiltrated Craigslist too. I didn't get any legitimate bites for my Nintendo Wii.

Well ebay has the traffic volume, so even I had to go back to sell something. Of course, I bumped into their shipping price limit while selling like 9 games. I usually offer free shipping, so I've never seen this change before. Ebay wouldn't let me list my item unless the shipping price was $4. I took my package to USPS and the shipping price was actually over $10 because I packed it with tender love and care for a good feedback. So ebay stresses speed yet maxes out shipping for media like books, dvd's, games, cd's at the much slower media mail rate. I'm sure people will get their DSR hit when buyers whine about slow shipping.

                              Ebay rules!
