    Who has an HP Laptop?

So I got my laptop the other day from Best Buy (dv7-1175nr) and I'm having some issues with the wireless. Using the HP Wireless Assistant, I have trouble connecting to my network at home. It'll take forever, say "taking unusually long to connect", then it'll say "connection unsuccessful".

The only way it works, is if I cycle down my modem and router. After I do that, it seems to work fine until I start up my computer again or come off standby (like I did today, and it didn't work).

Any ideas? I tried updating the wireless drivers and it said they were up to date.

I really shouldn't have to power down my modem and router everytime I want to connect to the freakin' internet.

Have you figured out the reason? It seems pretty unacceptable to purchase a new laptop and have repeated issues with connecting to the internet right off the bat.

I have an HP Laptop. I think I set up my internet using windows and not the Wireless Assistant. Haven't had any trouble just having windows search for the network itself.

Have you tried going this route?

I'm having Windows automatically find my network, I think. When I start up the computer, it says "HP Wireless Assistant: On" then on the bottom right it'll say "Wireless Networks Found", etc.

You have the little box that pops up Wireless Assistant and Bluetooth Assistant?

            Or Just wireless assistant?

Anyways when windows finds your network there should be an option under network connections to have windows automaticaly find that network when the computer is turned on and connect to it.

It just says Wireless Assistant. I don't think I have Bluetooth on this sucker.

It automatically finds it, but it has trouble connecting. The green progress bar flows from left to right, then left to right, and usually it should connect within "one flow", but it takes a few times then it'll say "taking unusually long" then it'll say "connection unsuccessful".

Hmm. Never had that issue before.

How many bars are you getting on the wireless reception?

Five. It's really unfathomable. We have a relatively new router too, so this shouldn't be an issue.

I don't really have any more ideas. I wish I could help you out...

I'm guessing you have cruised through the HP Support Site?

I have a HP laptop, but haven't had that issue.

Whenever I had issues in the past, this message board was pretty helpful (it's the HP specific sub forum)...

I haven't gone through the support site yet.

Bill, I went to Notebook Review and I tried posting a thread but apparently I don't have "sufficient privileges" so I thought I'd try here first.

I'll just try fiddling around with it. I just came off a reboot and it connected automatically so who knows.

One more thing. Do you have the wireless "switch" slider on the front of the notebook to the left of the touchpad?

If so do you leave it on all the time? I leave mine in the on position all the time, even when computer is off. Seems to help.

On my model, there's no switch in the front. Instead, it's a touchpad button by the volume controls, etc.

                              I see.

Well hopefully it starts working for you. I really have no clue what the problem is.
