What has happened here?

Two decent singles... then the album turns out to be so-so? Kanye what have ye done? Seems the passing of his grandmother has effected his music to the point where... it simply isn't up to the same standards of his previous releases.

Highly disappointed.

Welp, glad Yay got that experimentation ish out of his system. That was probably the dullest/least inspiring 45 minutes of my life. It's ok Yay, Common, Mos, The Roots and Andre 3000 went through the same hey I want to do something different type thing..

Knowing there was going to be singing with the auto tone beforehand still didn't prepare me for how much I simply was not moved by anything on the entire album. Outside of like two tracks, the whole project was atrocious.

I love Kanye, though. Can't wait to hear the rest of his work on The Blueprint III.

Listened to the first track of the album for about 30 seconds before I realized I really didn't wanna hear that foolishness. Kanye singing for a whole album? It's cool to put out a couple songs like that but seriously...

I dont know what Kanye's on but this autotone crap is only good when used here and there.

He claimed a month or so ago that it was all Autotoned and was a "pop album" So I didnt expect much but then I heard love lockdown and heartless and thought hmm ok those sound good, but than after that it was just welcome to heartbreak and the rest was garbage, oh and robocops ok

this will be known as his album that sticks out like a sore thumb. he'll be back soon enough.

With all due respect it was his mother that passed away.

I don't know how much that has to do with the album, but I'm pretty sure that around the time Love Lockdown dropped, word spread that he had just recently split with his fiancée, so that's what I believe is the chief motivation of this..."experiment." But there's little doubt in my mind that his mother's passing has something to do with this as well.

I read a review saying the album deals more with the fact that his relationship desolved with his fiancee more then his mother passing away.

Out of the 11 songs, 10 of them deal with heartbreak from love gone wrong. With lines like "A friends showed me a picture of his kids/All I could do was show him pictures of my cribs"

I for one really enjoy pretty much every song I've heard from 808's and Heartbreak.They really sound like he's putting his feelings on the line. I respect that to the fullest.

But it doesn't hurt that I really like the whole auto-tune sound going on right now. Done by the right artists, (T Pain, Lil Wayne, Kanye) it sounds fresh and is a cool twist that's being brought back to hip pop.

Much props to Kanye.

Only difference is that Dre 3000 has pretty much been doing his "different" style since Stankonia and has done pretty well for himself since then. Same goes for Common.
