Next gen games better on 32" or 40" tv?

    I just bought a brand new samsung 40" 1080p (ln40a500) at 60 hz.

When I play games (ps3) they all seem a little stretched, whether in 720p or 1080p mode:

    The Show 08
    College Hoops 2k8
    Hot Shot Golf

Madden 09 looks especially bad, and so does Hot shots golf. The only one that always looks good is Unreal Tournament and Tekken 5 DR.

Now I've played with all the settings - contrast rations, 16:9 vs. 4:3, dynamic mode vs. game mode, etc. etc. etc.

But the bottom line remains that these games all seem to be a little to stretched out and pixilated on the 40".

Is this just my experience or do you guys think I just got a crappy tv or what?

No, what you are seeing isn't normal.

Most of these tv's come with several different modes like: Zoom, Just, etc... they are in there to make a regular 4:3 picture stretch to fill the screen

It sounds like something such as Zoom or Just(or whatever your brand of tv calls it) is being employed.

After taking a look at the online manual for your tv it looks like you want "Just Scan" or "16:9".

OH, also... i just remembered, when I got my HDTV I forgot that there is a switch on the AV cable of the 360. You have to push to the HDTV side. I bet that's it. I had the same problem and that fixes it.

A setting has to be off or something dude...

My parents have their PS3 hooked up to a 52" Samsung and it looks amazing.

Bingo. That would have been my first question. Composite is going to look like crap.

The Show 08 should look amazing on a HDTV.

hmm, some games will not play well in 1080p. put the video setting to automatic in the ps3 so it adjust accordingly.

If I have a 360 with hdmi inputs but no hdmi inputs on the tv is there a way to get hdmi period. I'm hearing mixed answers. I have a samsung 1080i 32inch. Manufact. 2002.

The red white and yellow and the blue and green inputs. I have numerous inputs tho. And I can buy a dvd player with the hdmi input if that helps?

I read somewhere that you have to go into the display settings on the playstation dashboard thing and turn off 720p and 1080i to get some games to output in 1080p. I did that with my 40" Toshiba as I noticed that NBA 2K9 was only showing in 720p. It's annoying but you will REALLY see the difference. In 720p I still had some jaggies but in 1080p it was as smooth as a baby's butt...although I've never touched a baby's butt.

                              Give that a try.
