Help with hooking up speakers to tv

I just got the Sony HT-CT100 to go with my Samsung LN46A550, and as of right now I have sound coming through the tv. I haven't yet set up the speaker system, so before I go ahead and get to business I figured I would ask a couple questions:

What cables are necessary? (I have two optical cables, one I plan on using for the PS3)

Do I need to not only connect the speakers to the tv, but also the cable box?

Any help is appreciated. I just want to make sure I don't make any mistakes.
    Thanks.

What audio slots are on the cable box?

Only thing I see is where it says, "Digital Audio," which is where an optical cable goes.

First you need to see if your tv likes them. It doesn't have to be like in love with the speakers, a physical attraction will do.

Then you get the speakers good and liquored up. Then tell the tv to compliment the speakers. Tell them they look nice as usual. Maybe do some light hearted joking around with them.

Just make sure you give them a surge protector! You don't want any accidents!

Not sure how to set this up...I've got everything plugged in and I've still got sound coming from the tv, not the speakers.

I have my PS3 optical cable from the PS3 to the sub-woofer.
I have an optical cable running from the cable box to the tv.
And I have a little AGP looking piece (the cable connected to the sound bar) connected from the speakers to the sub-woofer.

How do I know what settings to check off for the optical cable in my PS3 settings in order to have sound coming from my speakers?

Sounds pretty good...I just don't like the fact that I have three remotes, and they are all necessary for something.

One remote is solely for adjusting the volume, when using the soundbar/sub-woofer instead of the tv speakers. One remote is for the cable (channels) and one is for tv settings, which I tend to change frequently.
