Im thinking about selling my PS3 to get a Elite Gaming PC

    Whats up fellas,

I'm very down on console gaming, and i dont really see the light at the end of the tunnel for me at least (at this point in time). I currently own a Ps3. and like 3 games I hardly play.

Lately I have been playing some older"ish" RTS pc games. (AOE, Starcraft,AOM, etc)

Battlefield 1942 was probably my favorite game to play on a PC, I could play that online for days.

Anyway. Im STRONGLY considering selling my PS3 and games, and getting, or having someone help me/or build a Gaming PC that I can continue to add on parts as new equipment and technology come out.

At first i was goign to go the Alienware route. But those guys are fairly expensive, and in my limited research I noticed I could get all of the same parts far cheaper.

Basically I'm posting because I need your help, as to If your available to build a rig, or you could suggest a spot...I have no problem sending money via pay pal, or purchasing the parts and having them sent to your place, but its something I'm definitely trying to do fairly quickly I suppose.

I would definitely like to be able to play all of the latest PC games at the highest possible resolution with no lag or frame rate issues (basically like the console)

Money is an issue i suppose I figure I'm going to sell my ps3 so i think thats about what $400? + lets say ill be willing to throw in another $600

So right now my budget would be around $1000 - $1200

If anyone would be willing to help I would appreciate it.

Oh yea. I have a Toshiba 47' 1080p LCD TV that has a PC input connection,as well as HDMI and I had my old computer hooked up to it at one point for just using the internet and what not, but If i could use that for Gaming that would obviously be amazing.

    Thanks in advance.

Edit: Also i should note, I don't really need the computer for much else besides Gaming, I have a laptop i do all my music listening/Internet browsing on.

Just as long as I can use the computer to play games I'm fine.

I'm not an expert, but I don't think you're going to reach your goal of playing new games at their peak settings on a $1000-1200 machine. Just the graphics card you'll need alone will cost somewhere around $700 or so. You start throwing in the kind of CPU power you'll need (probably need more than one CPU), RAM, ways to cool all the stuff off, and you're looking at more than your budget.

I have a friend that just built a PC and he can run Crysis at really high framerates on the highest settings possible. He spent somewhere around 3k putting it all together.

      Stick with the PS3.

$1000 is not good enough for a gaming rig, even if you built it. If you really want one, sell the PS3 and save up.

Heh, I guess my definition of "high end" is different than ya'lls. You can get a quad core barebones machine (motherboard, case, processor) for about $250 -- add a fan, HD, RAM, PSU, etc. and that puts you right around $450-$500. Then for a video card, you can get this badass for about $350: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...709&CatId=3585

From my understanding, that should run basically everything that's out right now at highest settings... that's more of less what I was told by everyone here when I was looking at barebones for 2K9. Maybe I'm wrong though, as I'm not exactly on the cutting edge when it comes to hardware... but $3000? Jesus.

I bought a computer a year ago and it runs everything blazing for the most part, I paid $1600 and you can probably get something twice as good for $1000 now. Sure you could spend $700 on a video card and $1500-2000 on a new PC but you don't need to.

I'd highly recommend you check out this Ohio company where I bought mine. They are very honest and I've never had an iota of trouble with my PC. They are also willing to hold your hand and are very, very patient with questions and the like.

AVADirect builds custom PCs, gaming computers, notebooks, workstations and more with high quality craftsmanship and great customer service.

One thing I was really impressed by this company is, as I said, the honesty. I went into the sale planning to spend about $2000 and had done a lot of homework. I'm one of those guys that spends a bit more even when it's not 100% necessary just so I can be sure i'm getting the best but the AVA sales guy I was working with actually talked me down on a few things that I didn't need. Imagine that, a company that is honest enough to talk you out of spending more money with them!

Anyways, I found out about this company on a place called H Consumer which is a place basically for a bunch of PC nerds to talk about PC parts. For the most part they are highly recommended with great feedback. Yeah they have the occasional complainer but what company doesn't and I've never seen anything major about them.

            Link to H consumer

Check them out on resellerratings too, when I bought my machine they were extremely high rated. I just now checked and their score is 8.92.

            Link to resellerratings reviews

And finally, here is my comprehensive (long) review of AVA direct and the entire ordering process:

All in all though I must say I enjoy console gaming but if you do go to PC gaming then good luck because there is a lot of fun stuff there too!

might want to check out the new intel i7 machines coming out

before you buy. i didnt get all the specs on it, but saw one at

bestbuy today (quadcore) at approx $1250.

could probably build one cheaper, and would keep you gaming

              longer before the inevitable updates.

The problem is going with a $1000 for a gaming rig is you're using soon to be outdated hardware... unless of course you get a great deal on the GPU, CPU, RAM, etc.

If you're going to commit yourself to PC gaming for now and the future, don't go cheap.

All this stuff adds up. Even if you go with a decent GPU but you still need a good cooling system. That cooling system needs a stronger power supply and so forth.

Either way GSW, good luck, just take your time.

keep your PS3. and buy a 400 pc then buy a 200 dollar video card. With that PC you should be able to play most games from 2007 and back with nice settings. Get the best of both worlds fam.

If I were you, I would build a pc from the ground up. You get far superior price/performance.
This is what I did. The research can actually be fun and you can be certain you are satisfied with what you paid for it.

Also, the pre assembled PCs you get rarely have a powerful enough power supply to feed your PC + whatever GPU you choose for the long term.

You don't need a top flight GPU, either. You could spend $150 and get great performance. Leave it to the hardcore fan base to drive the prices down.

Also, when you are building your PC, make sure you get a good quality power supply(don't skimp) and a case that has plenty of room for expansion. This is the one I purchased

I am a PC fan. I would suggest building your own. You may not get a top flight system for under $1200 but you can build a system that will play NBA 2k9 and older other games near the top settings.

It has been a few years since I have built a PC but I would be willing to help you out. Depending on my living situation I may end up building myself a new top notch PC. With EA returning to the PC next year I am likely selling my Xbox 360.

Anyway www.newegg.com and www.tigerdirect.com are the best places to get parts.

                      Good luck!

I think you should stick with the PS3 unless you REALLY love MMORPGs or RTS games. Even then I don't think you need much to run those.

I just built my computer last summer for around 1200 CAD, I can play virtually all current games at top settings, except for crysis. So yes you can build a mid level-upper tier computer in your budget range.

Also you can get a good Dell PC with a core quad processor for $600 on dell outlet. From there you could upgrade parts as you need.

The XPS 420 system is alright to use as a base. May need to upgrade the power supply and video card but overall it is a good system with a operating system.

This may be what I end up doing.

In regards to the "build your own PC" crowd's suggestions: Over the years i've built many PC's. Yeah building a PC is fun. Until you can't get the PC to boot and you have spent hours and hundreds of dollars on it. I'd only recommend you go that route GSW if you have a friend or family member who is a real PC nerd and can assist. I'd hate to see you spend a bunch of money on parts and then not be able to get a working PC.

It's not saving money at all if he ends up with a bunch of expensive equipment that don't function. If you don't have a PC nerd friend or family member i'd recommend a great base PC, like suggested above a Dell, and slap a new video card into it. Just be sure wherever you order from that you can upgrade it without issue.
