This isnt the Oscars so there are no technical awards. The only other thing I could see it getting nominated for was Best Picture and I doubt TDK was better than the other Drama nominated films.

Yeah, a guy I work with just saw TDK for the first time last night and he came in this morning all angry about Bale's "Batman voice." As you said though, he has to do something to hide his identity and the whole premise of Batman is that he's supposed to be something dark that villains fear, so it makes sense that he'd use a low, raspy, fearsome voice. I'd much rather hear Bale's Batman voice than watch Superman parading around using his real voice and watch everyone fail to recognize that he's Clark Kent just because he's not wearing glasses.

As for TDK not being nominated, I am shocked....simply shocked. Because these award shows are usually all about honoring science fiction, fantasy, and comic book movies. Errrr....no. Other than Return of the King, which was basically nominated as a three-movie achievement award for Peter Jackson, it's unlikely we'll see any other such movies nominated in the near future. Even though TDK worked just as well, if not better, as a Heat-esque crime movie, the people who vote on these panels are biased towards non-comic-book movies.

Nolan has already proven himself to be my favorite director, and I appreciated the directing in this film over what someone like Sam Raimi, Paul Greengrass, or Michael Bay would have done with it... but this was by far his most inferior work compared to his other big movies (I rank his directing from best to worst as follows: Memento, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight).

Overall, though, I don't know if I noticed a movie with better directing yet this year (that I saw, at least). No way have I been emotionally captured by the images on screen like the way Nolan does it. It's just a shame that the score can't get a nod because of that 70% credit thing.

It's a biased opinion of mine, but I definitely would have loved to see The Dark Knight get some more nominations anyway (including Best Director), simply because it truly has been the biggest movie of the millennium thus far.

Screeners. I've seen Frost/Nixon, Slumdog and and part of Button because of screeners.

I personally would have liked to see it get a nom (not win but I thinks it deserving of a nom) for the drama at the Globes. I'm aware their are no technical awards at the globes but still thought tdk would be recognized for more than just Heaths performance.

Can't really complain as their were so many great dramas this year. If it were me giving the award it would go straight to Slumdog Millionaire a excellent film by the master Danny Boyle.

While I certainly agree of course Bruce has to disguise his voice but in tdk its pretty exaggerated. Take a look back to Batman Begins its perfect but for whatever reason its much more exaggerated in tdk.

Don't get me started on Superman's disguise lol.

Only seen about 30 minutes of it. My boss is a member of the academy and she's being stingy about giving me that screener. I watched a piece of it a work the other day and I thought it was good. The reviews have been good so far also.

Yeah, but as Skerik said, just look at the title of the movie. It's supposed to be a dark movie with its main character discovering that being Batman is about living in the underworld amongst the criminals.

I'll buy that any day over the Clark Kent disguise or Peter Parker outing himself to all of NYC.

No doubt about that. Yeah I know it was suppose to be "darker" so his voice became deeper but in my opinion I think he still would have came off "dark" with his actions not his voice. In fact I think it would have been more effective.

I see where your coming from though.

Well I'm sure if they had a Best Action/Adventure Movie award TDK would be nominated. You know it's going to sweep the MTV awards. Pulp Fiction all over again.

It seems the Oscar folk have been open to science fiction, fantasy, and comic book movies since 1938 when The Adventures of Robinhood was nomiated and if you don't want to count that as fantasy for some reason then in 1939 when Wizard of Oz was nominated even though they weren't limited to 5 nominations back then. The Exorist was nominated,Jaws,Star Wars,Raiders,E.T.,A Clockwork Orange, even Beauty & the Beast...so yes there's more than LOTR. Gladiator actually won and I think that can be streteched to fantasy.

The Oscars ratings have been piss poor for as long as I can remember - I think having a lot of TDK noms would give them a bit of a boost, especially if Ledger is nominated and if TDK is nominated for Best Picture.
