Joining the Blackberry Scene

Hey guys,

The other day I went out to a party and looking down at my stuffed pocket, I realised: hmm, I need a smartphone.

I had my ipod, phone, wallet, etc. If I can cut down on some of the things, I will.

However, I am unsure of whether it's right for me to get a smartphone, and if so, a blackberry or iPhone.

Basically, I dont want a data plan. I dont plan on downloading stuff through the app store *cough* -- I basically want a phone with good reception (and one that I can use in Europe) and want to be able to listen to music. Im not into the whole scene of facebook and msn on the go, think that's a bit much. A decent GPS would be great, as well.

Would you guys recommend a smartphone for someone like me, or am I better off having all the toys separately?

Also, should I go blackberry or iPhone for my needs? Please include reasons, if possible.

A lot of the the regular cell phones (non PDA/Blackberry/IPhone) come with these things now.

I bought a RZR like two years ago that played MP3's (had a slot for a SD mini card, so I could hold up to 2 or 4 GB of music). Also had a camera.

I would bet that each carrier has several phones that fit those three needs: Phone, Music, Camera

If you don't plan on using the data plan a smart phone would be a waste of money. Almost all new phones are capable of taking pictures and playing mp3s and are significantly cheaper than smart phones. I believe all new phones have a SD mini slot with them now to expand the memory.

Well, I have a Samsung D900i. Ive had the moto k1 and the chocolate as well as other phones with those capabilities.

I dont know, Im just thinking about getting an iPod and just think the iPhone would be the better buy, when considering the prices and capabilities.

You need a "media" phone like the many offered by Sprint. Although I would suggest you get the Blackberry Bold.

It's very tough suggesting a music player outside of Apple's devices. Personally, I can't think any that meet your needs sans a Data plane.

What about the HTC Touch? Uses windows mobile and there are some great 3rd party media players I used to use on my Dell Axim.

Thanks for the recommendations -- however, keep in mind I am Canadian and the selection down here is crap compared to what you guys have. Lucky Americans with better technology :P
