    LUCID DREAMING

I was in my 30s before I realized that not everyone dreams "lucidly". In fact it's purported to be only 10% of the population. For the few that don't know lucid dreaming is "knowing that you are dreaming". Many of my lucid dreams were "wake initiated" where you go almost directly from an awake state to into a dream state. The other type is "dream initiated" where you are in a normal dream and realized that you are dreaming. Any thoughts?

If not for the internet, I wouldn't know that some people are so bad at dreaming.

I was just talking about this with friends yesterday. I only remember maybe 2 or 3 dreams per month.

me and my friend got deep into this a few years agi and were doing little reminders to get your brain to remember how to dream a lucid dream. Anyway I had one lucid dream and it was an amazing experience.

That's not necessarily a lucid dream. In fact many lucid dreams are forgotten.

I actually have done this quite a bit. Powerful feeling realizing that you are dreaming and trying to make the direction of the dream to somehow go the way you want it to. I also dream a lot more often during my 20-30 minute naps I occassionally come home to take on my lunch break from work. Those tend to be more out-of-body like because I always seem to be in my room in the afternoon and I'm always worried about oversleeping. Kind of weird.

I thought this thread was about Franz Ferdinand. But now I've learned something useful.

I've done it once in a while.

                I'll never forget this one:

I was drowning in like 3 inches of water or something face down and realized I was dreaming. I kept trying to wake myself up and I couldn't and I was freaking out wondering if this was the way I was going to die. Then I finally got myself to wake up and I had to catch my breath. I might've had my face in the pillow or something but it was a scary experience. I wish I were kidding about this!

                  Re: LUCID DREAMING

My experiences, at least the ones that I remember, have me consciously entering a dream state while I'm still awake. You "feel" the transition as you nod off and your dream starts out with you on your bed. I would "levitate" or "float" off the bed, and then either "fly" out the window or gently drop down to the floor. If I chose to drop to the floor I would continue to walk through my apartment, which would look exactly like my apartment, sometimes with an exception, like an unusual lamp, but many times not. When I opened my apartment door I would simply further validate the dream by "jumping" into the air either floating or flying and then exploring differences in the landscape such as new or different house just outside my complex. The weird thing is I started lucid dreaming at around 6 or7, but I couldn't competently "fly" until 10 or 11. I could jump over things as large as a trailer(yes I lived in a trailer as a youth) and float around, but forward flight was difficult.
