    Direct TV HD DVR question

I currectly have direct tv HD.
I called to upgrade to an HD DVR and they said you have to pay $199 up front for the DVR, then 5 bucks a month.
    Is that how it works??

Yup. You might be able to get them to lower the cost, but it's gonna take a lot of haggling. Also be mindful that you DON'T own the DVR. When you choose to cancel if ever, you must return that box to DTV or they will bill you for the entire price of the DVR(about $3oo bucks)

It depends on the customer service representative you talk to. People have been known to get them for free, for $100, etc.
