    Bravia KW series with MotionFlow

Just thought i'd pass along my extreme happiness with my new tv, Sony Bravia's 46 inch Kw series.
If anyone around here is looking for a 1080p tv this I highly reccomend.
The MotionFlow function will make you drop your jaw at how real things can look, it literrally looks like your own eyeballs at times.
I havent tried it with gaming yet, and the odd person here and there wont care for it but man it blows my mind.
Dark Knight on Blu Ray regardless looks better than in theatres but with Motion Flow its CRAZY.

1080i brother, at least thats what it says when i turn it on with my playstation, 1080p I Believe is when u use HDMI but with a tv lower than 42 inches, 1080i is 42 and up I think...
anywho I messed up the tittle a bit its KDL-W series.
If your in a department store and its on I highly suggest hitting options on the remote go down to video enhancement and goto full the really see the big difference between this tv and others. its pretty nuts. also I played some uncharted on it a few minutes ago with the Motion Flow on and yeah its great on the gaming side of things too for the most part

It's 1080i only if you are using component cables... it will be 1080p with HDMI.

Motion Flow is one those enhancements that people either love or hate... glad you're loving it.

        Congrats on the tv.

really? I mean im not an eintsein or anything, but I do have an HDMI cable for my PS3 cennected to the HDMI 1 port and everytime I turn on the tv and go to HDMI port 1 itll say 1080i wierd.. owell either way, if you have an HDMI cord regardless this tv is high quality.
          thanks for the kudos!
and yea it seems people either love or hate the motion flow im sooo into the love side lol. I could see some others needing to force themselves to try it out for a week or so to really see how they feel.

That's odd, it may have to do with a setting within your PS3 in that it's only sending 1080i, but your TV will convert it to 1080p.

Re: Bravia KW series with MotionFlow

Motion flow is a love it or hate it feature because most people aren't viewing it in it's proper context. Unless you like your movies and shows to all look like it's filmed on a soap opera set I would recommend turning off motion flow for everything but sports and channels like the Discovery channel.

Movies and TV shows are filmed at 24 frames per second and motion flow is meant to enhance pictures that film digitally at 30-60 fps such as sports, documentaries, video games and talk show formats like Leno and Lettermen so it gives it that pop and reduces blurring.

Motion flow will give movies that 3d look but you will also get a plasticky picture where motion is unnatural and also the dreaded soap opera look that really ruins the movie viewing. It's not intended for movies and I really can't understand how someone can enjoy watching it that way because it lacks smoothness and the film like feel that was intended. It takes you out of the movie because everything looks fake but to each his own.

The problem is most manufacturers don't make it simple to turn motion flow on and off with one button if you change channels. For instance changing channels from a movie to football requires me to get into 2 menus and eventually pressing 3 buttons to turn motion flow on and off to suit the appropriate channel I'm watching. That's alot of trouble to go thru so many people can't be bothered which I can't fault them for.

Yeah that makes sense, for watching movies personally I love it, I knew the whole 24frames while its 120 with motion flow, and in reality it barely looks like a soap, but people like to make that assumption cuz its similar is ways of panning a room, but the quality is so real I can live with the odd hick up every 4-6 minutes. Youre right though things like Man Vs Wild or Planet Earth and sports obviously is really where the strength of Motion Flow comes out to shine, IMO its the realist television so far. Gaming is great too, however the game should be able to run at a high rate, I played the show on it and while the cutscenes looked improved my gameplay suffered cuz my timing was off. nothing i couldnt get used to, but perhaps for a game with more movement like hockey it would be better Ill find out tonight.

yep that was motion flow, i remember 6 months ago being in a bestbuy as well and it was clearly different and more smooth and sure enough thats what it was usually the displays have the motionflow sticker on the side.

Hogfan you were right 1080p is the better, and my PS3 just needed some tweaking.

We just got the 46 inch Samsung LN46A550 and are very happy with that. No special features like motion flow but its a huge step up from never having an HDTV lol

I have a 120hz set, and have the 120hz turned off except for sports. I hate the way everything looks, the soap opera effect if you will. Especially in big budget action scenes...ugh. All the special effects look so fake. To each their own though.

Your TV will still refresh at 120hz regardless of whether the motion flow is enabled. When you turn off the motion flow you are turning off the anti-judder video processor. Judder is inherent in film based content which is why when you enable the anti judder (which is what motion flow is based on) you get the weird look in films and artifacts in fast action movie scenes. A TV with a good anti-judder proceessor will have less artifacts in the image.

For anybody looking for a new 1080p TV the most important aspect, besides motion flow for sports and video games, is the 120 hz refresh rate and the response time (5ms or lower is good). Those last 2 features alone will make watching films easier because blurring will be reduced at 24FPS regardless of whether motion flow is enabled.

Contrast ratio really means nothing. The manufacturers use whichever #'s suit thier advertising and don't usually specify if it's the dynamic contrast ratio or not because that # is usually lower than the normal contrast ratio. Each manufacturer has thier own benchmarks so if Sony claims 50000:1 and Samsung claims 10000:1 the difference would be negligable because of how they each measure it.

Man, my mom just got the Samsung 52 inch 120hz LCD 1080p and that thing is Freaking amazing... Makes my 42 inch 60hz look like a pile of POO... I watched death race on her television and man o man let me tell you, it made the experience that much better, no motion blur, no noise on the screen...

120hz LCD's are the way to go..

Until the 240hz come out which Sony has already done and are charging twice as much for the same TV with 120hz. Apparently the 240hz advantages are minimal at best over 120hz.
