So opinions different than your own are laughable?

When you clump them all together in a list like that, you make it seem as if whoever thought one was overrated thought they all were overrated, which isn't even close to the case. I love Matrix, I didn't think The Dark Knight (outside of the Joker*, but that wasn't enough for me to think it was all that great as a movie, just a great performance, like Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino for me) was anything to get excited about. The Godfather series is one of my favorites, but not so much on the Terminator, I couldn't get into either one of them (or the tv series). Point is, what's with condescension in regards to people's differing opinions?

I'm not being condescending, but it is funny to me when some gets asked "what's the MOST overatted movie EVER", and they go for the AFI top 100. I won't get into it, but some of the movies mentioned are shining examples of filmmaking, and breakthrough films on so many levels that it does leave me wondering what is not overrated, and what is considered great.

And we're not talking about a little overrated...we're talking about most overrated ever. When you call Francis Ford Coppola's best work the most overrated film of all time... I don't know. I just don't know. It's not even about different from me, but it's different from every intelligent film criticism I've ever read. There are essays on some of these films that show really brilliant work and craftsmanship put into them. If you say Einstein wasn't that smart, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I'm also entitled to my "WOW"

And just to be clear, the "Wow" is shock, not condescension.

The original Superman. Corny as the day is long.

It's movie made in the 1970's based off a comic book.

I'd say if it came across corny then Donner nailed exactly what he was going for.

I wasnt aware that anyone said it was the greatest movie ever made but at the same time I dont see how it even comes close to being overrated and by the responses from other people here they tend to agree.

I'm not sure if this will qualify for whatever the criteria is, but since some people thrown out cult-status films, I'll do the same:

Boondock Saints - I'm not really sure what the big deal is with this movie. I've seen this movie name-dropped quite a bit when talking about great action films, but it just doesn't do it for me. Its a nice action, pop-corn flick, but when its all done it comes off as been involuntarily self-mocking by taking itself too serious and coming off as a corny action film.

As far as cult-status films go, yes. Its not on the same level for me as Heat because I really wasn't let down like I was with Heat after 2.5-3 hours, but I was still disappointed that it wasn't nearly as good as people had made it out to be. Plus, there's a sequel in production.

It's rated horribly. I think it's a really bad film, but it's also rated as a really bad film.

Boondock Saint's popularity, hype and rating cannot be judged by a RT score...at all. The movie was rated terribly and did terrible in theaters, but go to any college here in MA and 90% of the students at the very least know about it.

I guess it's just a matter of the crowd you hang around. I don't know anyone that didn't make fun of that movie from beginning to end. We liked the documentary about making the movie more than making the movie. If you haven't seen it, it's hilarious. It's like a tangental spinoff of Entourage.

I don't think the original Superman movie was under or overrated. Keep in mind that to that point any superhero endeavor sucked. Yes, I'm including the Bixby/Ferregno Hulk TV series. Although maybe corny or somewhat campy by today's standards, at the time I think you walked out of that movie agreeing that they took a comic book and brought it to life on the screen.

Everyone hyped the **** out of this movie in college. I went out and picked it up... and quite frankly, I think it sucks.
