    Wow. Def agree on Gladiator.

I still have not seen the whole thing.

Attempted twice, and fell asleep both times...

    EDIT

Add Pineapple Express. So many people told me how great it was... and wow. I laughed twice i think. I THINK. Im a huge fan of the whole recent rated R comedies that have been made (40 yr old virgin, knocked up, Forgetting Sara marshall, Step Brothers, so on and so forth), but this one did nothing for me at all

Great movie, not even close to being the greatest movie ever, therefore overrated.

I thought the movie was absolutely revolutionary for 1977 or whenever it was released. The technology behind the movie was incredible for thirty years ago. I think it was a classic and nowhere near overrated. Along with Jaws, one of Spielberg's best films. By far the best depiction of alien contact ever made.

Nice use of smileys there Born. So opinions different than your own are laughable?

When you clump them all together in a list like that, you make it seem as if whoever thought one was overrated thought they all were overrated, which isn't even close to the case. I love Matrix, I didn't think The Dark Knight (outside of the Joker*, but that wasn't enough for me to think it was all that great as a movie, just a great performance, like Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino for me) was anything to get excited about. The Godfather series is one of my favorites, but not so much on the Terminator, I couldn't get into either one of them (or the tv series). Point is, what's with condescension in regards to people's differing opinions?

Also, I am sure someone listed Casablanca as overrated for them.

*Edit: And even then I am sure a lot of it was based on the curiousity on the man's last performance, similar to what happened to Brandon Lee with The Crow (which I would also add to my list).

                        The Godfather.

It's not that it sucks, it's just that it's not nearly as great as everyone makes it out to be.

The Departed is one of the better gangster movies I have seen in a long time. The only problem is that not many people that love it know that it's not as original as they may have once thought. Internal Affairs did it first... I just thought The Departed did it better.

I just thought of another movie to add, but it's again another movie that I like, which is The Notebook. The overrated part is that I simply can't believe, no matter how sappy, that every girl I talk to about it says that they cried at the end and that it's the saddest movie they have ever seen! I only first saw it a couple of years ago, but just honestly... before that, everyone was telling me to go see it and how I would cry and blah blah (I know, I'm a guy so I shouldn't anyway), but I just didn't find it all that said. I like Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, I liked the love story, but there was nothing special about the very ending (a scene leading up to it was somewhat sad, though). Girls just tend to overrate the emotions this movie gives them IMO, if that makes sense.

And I'm not claiming that this movie is overrated, but I'm surprised no one else has yet said it: Juno. I know a lot of people that find it overrated (I'm not one of them), and it's sort of surprising that no one here has yet mentioned it.

And I think The Dark Knight deserves all of the praise that it gets, outside of its editing job (and a few cheesy moments to keep it as a "summer blockbuster"). But again, that's why we all reserve the right to our own opinions.

Hey man, I didn't say that I own it or watch it all of the time (haven't seen it in at least a year or so now), but I won't turn it down if a girl asks me to watch it with her. It's not overly realistic nor does it portray any sort of historic event genuinely, but it is a good story. I don't need the palm-to-face picture; we are all entitled to our own opinions. In my defense, did I not just say that the emotion drawn from the movie is incredibly overrated?

What's the point of creating a thread that allows people to state their opinions when you simply reject all of them?
