Re: MS giving up on Vista? Windows 7 beta out
Ironically, I hear nobody speaking about the Release Candidate. I figure it's more sensible to speak about it in here instead of wasting interenet space. Does anyone use it over their Vista? I can't download it yet because I need to upgrade. I have to convince the wife it's worth buying a motherboard, ram and a sensible graphics card.Comment

Re: MS giving up on Vista? Windows 7 beta out
Whelp, I decided to install it. I'm going to say that right now: Windows 7 RC>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Vista>XP. I think I'll upgrade. I'm going to test out those XP games and other compatibility options first before I just get sold. I do like how nice it is. By the way, IE8 is clearly weening me off of Opera (my favorite browser) and Firefox. It has a great combination between both which is great. It feels like there isnt' as much crap installed from the getgo. First impression is a positive one so far.Comment

Re: MS giving up on Vista? Windows 7 beta out
I'm using the RC (64bit) on my custom built computer. There was a known issue where Vista could not operate an AGP Radeon X1950 with an AMD 64 dual core. Either I had to disable one of the cores to get the Radeon to work, or I had to install a different video card.
I've since used 7 and it runs exceptionally well. No hardware compatibilty issues. Fastest boot time for Windows I've ever experienced... and I thought vista's was pretty fast in itself.
I'm trying to get used to IE 8, after using Firefox exclusively for so long.Comment

Re: MS giving up on Vista? Windows 7 beta out
I didn't realize this was out. I checked it out and it says it's good until Jun 2010, so I'm going to give the 64 bit version a shot (I've always used 32 bit up to now).Comment

Re: MS giving up on Vista? Windows 7 beta out
I'm not surprised......Vista was crap from the get go. Truth be told, a lot of Fortune 500 companies never did use Vista because it didn't work well with their servers and mainframes. A lot of them didn't use IE7 either because of the same thing.
So hopefully they ACTUALLY fully tested RC before they mass release it to the public.Comment

Re: MS giving up on Vista? Windows 7 beta out
Just clean installed the RC on my laptop a few days ago. I love it so far. I was running the beta and liked that as well. The thing I've noticed with the RC is the performance, it is really fast. I am also really liking IE8, its running really fast with the RC and I don't think I'll be dl'ing firefox.Comment

Take a slightly slower performing Firefox. You're just asking for trouble using IE.Comment

Heads up. If you pre-order Windows 7 between Friday and July 11 you can get Home Premium for $50 and Professional for $100. You can pre-order with the discount at Best Buy, the Microsoft store, or Amazon.

Re: MS giving up on Vista? Windows 7 beta out
So Windows 7 is not a Vista upgrade? They don't consider vista part of windows? I'm very confused... and Vista just takes a lot of space, they tried to make it like Mac OS , IMO...and so it's not very customizable...once I'm used to it I'm used to it, but I don't even know why they keep updating OS. Make one not buggy, and FAST, with minimal space, and let it run programs...and call it good.Comment
