2. Saving Private Ryan: "'The Statue of liberty is kaput'... thats disconcerting"

Nothing that suggests an independent vision, unless you count seeing more limbs blown off than usual.

It never was a great film, but it's now a part of our culture.

Something a lil different this time around with the usual movie quote and a blurb from the worst review I could find.

I LOVE Saving Private Ryan. But part of me says I love the opening scene, the Normandy scene, and the final scene along with the overal sound more than the actual movie. If that makes sense.

Oz, well, that one is a movie as a kid I'd watch every time it was on TV, it was like an event for me.

It's a hard choice, and the movies couldn't be any more polar opposite, but I take Oz here.

Private Ryan...I despise the Wizard of Oz with every fiber of my being. I couldn't watch it as a kid, and I can't bring myself to watch it with my son. Sure it's a landmark film, Technicolor and all that. I just think it sucks.

I don't like Oz either, actually I can't think of many movies that I like where they bust out in song for no reason.

As a rule, I don't vote in public polls. Even though it's pretty much the same thing though, I'll go ahead and pick in my reply.

I loved The Wizard of Oz. I even had a dream about it last week where I personally killed the Witch, twice (one with the regular water bit and the second time I choked the bitch out) and moved into her house (that lair it turned out was just the attic, the rest was quite nice and modern).

I'm going with SPR though. This was one of those movies that really involved me on an emotional level. All the characters were well done, the pacing was great and I loved the story. The beach scene is one of, if not the greatest ever.

Well, considering I've seen OZ about a zillion times on TV this past holiday season, and getting to be a WW2 fan - SPR would do it for me this go around..

I went with Wizard of Oz because as an overall film, I like it more. There are some powerful scenes in SPR, but the rest of the movie doesn't carry the weight for me.

I think we'll still be talking about SPR in 20 years and beyond. That Normandy scene is one of the best 20 minutes in the history of all war movies.

Not to mention the type of film and style Spielberg used that brought the audience into the fight.

I think I may have a biased opinion because I've seen how easy it is to lose focus on the overall mission on some obscure side issue of little overall importance.

Before watching Band of Brothers the past couple of weeks, I probably would have voted for SPR (though I agree that Normandy scene will forever be an epic piece of film), but I don't know - BoB for me has become what all other war movies/series will be judged against.
