Re: Laptop help
Pretty much anything these days will do the job, depends what you're looking for. For internet/word processors, it really doesn't matter, but if you're going for a lower model, especially ones without dual cores atleast, install XP. Vista is too memory intensive for budget laptops, and XP will yield twice as good performance.Comment

Re: Laptop help
Also, her other laptop is about to bite the dust and she has a ton of digital pictures on it. Would it be best to get an external hardrive and put all of her pictures on it?
Another question I have is, should we buy a virius protection or just use AVG? If we buy one, which one do you think is best?
With iTunes. She has an iPhone, but if she switches computers, is there anyway to get all of her songs from her iPod and iPhone onto the new laptop?
Thanks,Comment

Those will work. My cousin has something similar to the HP, and he uses it for the same things, internet, school and it works fine. I still prefer XP to vista but it will work fine.
And if she has a DVD or CD writer you could just back them up to those, or zip them and upload them to a webspace and then download them with a different machine, or zip them and email them to herself. Those are some easy free solutions.
As for Anti Virus, it's up to you. Kaspersky and NOD32 are generally highly regarded, but theres even some free ones that are decent. Comodo is pretty good. And the Comodo fire wall, which is free is very good and not a resource hog like norton.
EDIT - AVG or Avast should definitely get the job done if you want to go for a freee one.
Remember to get firefox and ad block plus.
Also you should be able to transfer the data from the iPod and the iPhone no problem.Last edited by KENYON06; 01-14-2009, 03:37 PM.Comment
