On a technical level, there's a lot to be said for Die Hard. It's when we get to some of the unnecessary adornments of the script that the movie shoots itself in the foot.

I know people always whine about this, but it's very difficult to compare these two movies in particular. Die Hard is one of the best action movies of all time and has stood up very well in my opinion since its release. But Godfather II is truly epic filmmaking on a much grander scale and with much better acting.

I'll say Godfather II. All the ridiculous hate the Godfather movies have been receiving on these boards lately pushed my vote that way.

DIE HARD might be the greatest action film ever, but Godfather II might just be the greatest film ever. (I like the first more though)

GF 2 never appraoched the level of pt 1, for me. DH thu remains as others have said arguably one of the best action movies ever, and lets not forget its also a christmas classic.

Godfather 2 is generally considered to be the equal or superior to the first Godfather, and also won the Oscar for best picture.

I'm actually shocked this one is close because almost every one of my friends consider GF2 as a favorite movie. Die Hard is the one I went with, but only because I've only seen half of GF2 (mostly because I watch it REALLY late for some reason...)

Best Picture, Best Director (Coppola), Best Actor (DeNiro), 3 Supporting Actor/Actress nominations.
You left out DeNiro's best Actor win. Pretty incredible run considering a sequel will probably have LESS chance of getting an award, particularly since it was just 2 years removed from the original.

The Godfather II is pretty much unanimously considered to be a step above part I, despite part I also being one of the GOATs. That having been said, I actually like part 1 better, because I prefer the tale of Michael Corleone's move to the Dark Side. Still, I recognize and agree with why part II is an improvement.
