Sling Blade is underrated? When did that happen?

Are you being serious with Grandma's Boy? Isn't that the one with Sandler's buddies? I thought it was horrid.

Kalifornia is my pick.Great thriller and perhaps Pitt's best performance ever but most average movie goers haven't even heard of the movie.

I could put Apocolypse Now, The Thing and The Shining in there too only because these movies were panned by most critics when they debuted but these same critics have selective memory as the years go by and do a complete 180 when they realize many viewers loved them as they aged.

Not that it's underrated, but it's just somewhat unknown: Equilibrium.

I'll also have to go with Saw III. It's my favorite in the Saw series, and if you look past the traps, it's such an incredible textbook trilogy closing kind of movie. It did a lot of things right. The unrated and director's cut versions did not, however. Watch the theatrical first if you get the chance, and see the other two first before seeing this one. No, it's not a great standalone movie... but with the story of Saw and Saw II, and the amount of hate that this one gets, I call it "underrated."

"The King of Comedy" by Scorsese with DeNiro and Jerry Lewis playing against type as a superstar host a la Johnny Carson. You'll never look at Jerry Lewis the same way again.

The Salton Sea. Not underrated necessarily, but almost unknown. GREAT film. Memorable scenes, good acting and characters...

                    I liked it.

Great choice. I remember the first time I saw that movie was during high school (I think it might've been earlier but can't remember for sure) and was floored. Very good movie with a lot of heart.

I wouldn't say it's so much against type by Jerry Lewis. It's probably the closest thing to an honest portrayal of himself on film. I like the movie a lot as well and it's a great study on the cult of celebrity.

Anyways my pick is See No Evil, Hear No Evil. Other then Another You this is probably the least remembered Wilder/Pryor films. I loved it because it was so politically incorrect and they could've pushed the envelope even further with those two guys if they chose to. Very funny flick.

You know what, I actually agree with that.

Also in the "more overlooked than underrated" category:

A friend of mine LOOOOVES Ronin. I like it a lot. Frankenheimer, baby. The Insider is a great choice for overlooked movie. I thought it was a high point for Mann.

Yeah Ronin is another good one. Speaking of Frankenheimer and this is more in the overlooked rather then underrated category did a movie on LBJ and Vietnam called Path to War which aired on HBO. It was his last movie ever and it was a very good one. Who knew an englishman (Michael Gabon) could capture the essence of LBJ?

Mine are more unknowns then underrateds:

                              Killing Zoe
                              the Beast (of war) 1988
                              Brotherhood of the Wolf
                              the Way of the Gun

                              & 2 William Friedkin flicks:
                              the Hunted
                              Sorcerer
