It's not even original, presenting Andy Kaufman on Letterman,

I think his name change should be Joaquin Koo-Koo. He didn't just fly over the nest. He made a couple round trips. He looks like a stoned rabbi mated w/the Blues Brothers.

I think Phoenix was the jerk by giving short answers and acting like he didn't want to be there. Letterman I guess got tired of it and let him have it.

              Probably a setup though.

That Andy Kaufman was something else. Man on the Moon is a classic. Joaquin has the same aura except Andy's seemed more or less sad if you hear the whole thing.

Because Andy Kaufman was a genius and Joaquin Phoenix isn't.

Quite possible, except that Howard Hughes was actually extremely successful beyond movies.

Phoenix, while being a very good actor, is just confused. I hope.

This so obviously a stunt. No one goes off the deep end that quickly. If he was slowly going nuts or had a drug problem that was that severe that he became this loony this fast then you would have heard it on movie sets the last few years about Phoenix being erratic and difficult to work with. There are no such stories and his rep in the industry is excellent about being professional and getting along with his co- starsand he's very welll respected.

Everything is too conveniant. Casey Affleck filming all of it. The ridiculous rap star aspirations. The obligatory bad performance doing it. The complete physical transformation out of the blue and of course the tried and true Letterman "Crispin Glover" appearance.

totally agree with this post. he's know as a perfectionist when it comes to his rolls. he's really diggin this one. he's got alot of ppl convinced though. i read a big article in my local paper about him doing this. i just hope this doesn't turn into a heath ledger thing...
I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...

Howard stern was talking about this interview today and he seems to think it is a stunt.

I personally think he has lost his marbles. Either way it should end spectacularly.

It's funny seeing Letterman with a morning show. Kaufman with Jerry Lawler on Letterman was pretty hilarious too.

While Man on the Moon with Jim Carrey was an OK movie I never understood why Carrey impersonated him in a way that made him sound like Kaufman was mentally challenged. Carrey's voice impersonation wasn't at all like how Kaufman talked.

If this indeed is all an act(which I'm expecting), it's genius. It is much more dark and subtle than a Sacha Baron Cohen type stunt. Sort of like making a point that if a celebrity grows a hobo beard, the story is thrown into the limelight of the media instead of actual news.
