Since the Over rated movies thread seemed to get a lot of discussion, why not find out what people on here consider over-rated in the musical world.

The Beatles did have a couple good years but I think the amount they affected the music industry is overrated.Comment

I'd go with Lil Wayne as well.
I think he is a great marketer and buisnessman, but as far as rap talent I don't think he's great. He may be pretty high up on the people making music right now, but I think that just shows how little talent there is out there. But I do have to give to Wayne for his business and promotion skills. His music, on the whole, is not good though.PSN: Koolie_G

Re: Overrated Musical Acts/Bands
Led Zeppelin are another one. I enjoy them, but they were basically just re-hashing a lot of songs that were done better by blues musicians 15 years prior, often without giving proper credit or compensation. The biggest reason that they were so successful was Robert Plant and his sex appeal (and voice, which obviously is unique) -- otherwise they'd be in the scrapheap with The Yardbirds, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and other British blues-rock outfits that never really caught on in any real way. They certainly wouldn't be one of the Top 5 rock bands of all-time without Plant driving the appeal...
And yeah, I'm salty about them shafting Willie Dixon (and others) and for generally lifting things that they heard and liked from everyone and anyone without regard. It's a subject that's been driven into the ground already, but all that musical theft does lower my opinion of Led Zeppelin (especially Jimmy Page) quite a bit.Send your Midnight Release weirdo pics/videos to my new website: http://www.peopleofmidnightreleases.com!Comment
